Climate strikers are shaking the table!

A worldwide climate strike is taking place today, March 15. Spearheaded by 16-year-old activist (and Nobel Peace Prize nominee) Greta Thunberg and led in the United States by young activists like Haven Coleman, Maddy Fernands, Alexandria Villaseñor, and Isra Hirsi, strike actions are taking place around the country and around the world as the Fridays for Future campaign enacts its biggest protest action to date.

According to a press release from U.S. Youth Climate Strike, over 100 countries are seeing actions take place. In the U.S., over 400 protests are happening with at least one in each of the 50 states.

“In staying true to the movement started by Greta Thunberg, this isn’t a huge rally - it is a STRIKE,” the statement reads. “Students are skipping school due to inaction on climate change and making their voices heard through direct action and civil disobedience.”

Already, thousands of students have taken to the streets on Fridays for months in Europe, drawing inspiration from Greta’s work. It all culminates in today’s global strike actions.
