7 Friday the 13th Movies that Will Make You Do a Double Take
Every now and then, it’s normal to wish to be someone else, even if just for a day. We'd like to remind you that you're pretty ideal just as you are, but it's totally valid to wonder how the other half lives. Would you appreciate the world in a new way, or would you do everything in your power to become your old self once more? They say the grass is always greener — but swapping bodies with somebody else often serves as a reminder that to them, your grass is just as green, too. Sometimes all it takes is a different perspective to notice it.
Enter movies about body-swapping, and not in the scary alien-invasion kind of way. Whether two sisters wished upon a star or forces of nature took over, these films often provide hilarious, heartwarming opportunities to reflect on our own lives and realize hey, we have it pretty good. If you’ve been mulling over what it would be like to be someone else for a little while, don’t go getting a drastic haircut or moving across the country; simply watch one of these seven movies about body-swapping and vicariously experience a change of pace.
1/7Freaky Friday
There have been several Freaky Friday movies based on the novel of the same name, but our favorite, bar none, is the 2003 version starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. This classic tale of a mother and daughter duo who are at odds, swap bodies, and are able to understand one another much better is excellent. LiLo’s in a pop punk band, Chad Michael Murray is featured as the movie’s heartthrob, and Jamie Lee Curtis’ supreme screen presence is mesmerizing. Definitely a must.
2/713 Going 30
When a bunch of mean middle schoolers play a prank on dorky Jenna Rink on her birthday, she wishes to be grown up. Her wish is granted when she wakes up and is magically age 30. Spoiler: her adult life is fabulous! She’s living in a bomb apartment in New York with a cute boyfriend and has a prestigious job, but she’s still not happy. Will she be able to reconnect to her roots and go back in time to grow up on her own terms?

If the promise of Zac Efron isn’t enough to convince you to watch 17 Again, we're not sure anything will. This feel-good body swap movie features Zac and Matthew Perry, both playing different versions of Mike O’Donnell. At 37, Mike is depressed and bored with his life. After a strange encounter at a local high school, he’s transformed into his 17-year-old self, as played by Zac. With youth on his side, Mike is able to realize the error of his ways and become closer with his family – but will they still confide in him once he turns back into his adult self?
4/7The Hot Chick
When a pair of cursed earrings find their way into the hands of cruel cheerleader Jessica Spencer, her life will be forever changed. She stops at a gas station and mistakes a criminal, Clive, for an attendant. When she drops one of the earrings, Clive picks it up; when they both wear their earring that evening, they wake up the next morning trapped in each other’s bodies. Will the switch help Jessica become a nicer person or Clive get out of trouble? You’ll just have to laugh along until the movies comes to its conclusion.
5/7Wish Upon a Star
The Wheaton sisters don’t have a lot to talk about. Alexia is one of the high school’s coolest students, while her younger sister Hayley is shy and awkward. When Hayley wishes on a shooting star, the sisters trade places. Initially, they try to ruin each other’s lives, but they eventually come to realize that being sisters means more than social standings and high school cliques.

Big features an iconic body transformation more than an official body swap. However, the movie is still entertaining for people of any age and features young Tom Hanks as a 12-year-old boy who makes a wish at a carnival to be “big.” He wakes up at 30 and has to get accustomed to life as an adult. Despite getting a job, and a relationship, he soon realizes things as an adult aren’t all they’re cracked up to be (amen).
7/7The Change-Up
The Change-Up showcases a classic case of two people thinking the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Dave is a successful lawyer with a family, while his best friend Mitch is a bachelor with a flexible schedule. Late one night, the two magically switch bodies and get a taste of what life is like for the other. And when they do, will they want to return to their original selves?
