Brands That Used No Photoshop in Ads
The Photoshop-free movement is finally gaining some ground in the fashion industry, especially with the help of select brands who have made powerful statements to go totally natural, refuse to use any digital means to re-touch their imagery, and generally promote a positive body image with their campaigns. While many brands speak out about the use of Photoshop to alter ads and editorials, not many brands put into practice what they preach. In 2014, Modcloth was the first retailer to sign an anti-Photoshop pledge that has now been signed by many others as the body-positive movement has taken hold.

Target started the swim season this year with totally Photoshop-free ads, showcasing women in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Aerie was one of the first brands to make a strong statement against Photoshop, recently launching a social media campaign called #AerieREAL.
4/6Vanessa Hudgens for Bongo
For the star’s ads in 2014, Vanessa chose to go totally Photoshop-free. Of the campaign, she said in a press release: “the clothes really make me feel carefree and confident, which is why I love that the final ad images are unretouched. It’s so important for girls to remember that real beauty shines from within and I’m so proud that Bongo is choosing to send such a positive message with this campaign.”

Dove has been at the forefront of the body-positive movement since 2004, when they launched The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty.
