Behind-The-Scenes Beauty: Alice + Olivia's Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook
We went behind the scenes at Alice + Olivia's Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook shoot, and true to style, Stacey Bendet's latest collection featured candy-colored brights, punchy Palm Beach florals, signature sequins, and equally chic hair and makeup looks.
Between their braided buns and turquoise eyelids, the models looked fun and fresh—why wait until next spring to snag the look? Sebastian Pro's Anthony Cole and makeup artist Jen Myles revealed exclusive tips on how to get the sixties-inspired face and hair right now.

He started by spraying wet hair with Sebastian Pro’s Trilliant Spray to get all-over shine and body, and then he blow-dried the hair straight using a Babyliss Nano Titanium Volare V2 Ferrari Luxury Dryer and a round brush. "I love the Trilliant Spray because you can use it on wet hair, dry hair, and anything in between! It’s an amazing all-in-one tool that works as a heat protectant, gives shine, and gets you that ’finished’ look," he says.

Next, he divided the ponytail into two equal sections and twisted them together to create an easy braid. He then slightly loosened pieces of hair in the braid to give it a more natural look, and pinned the twist he created into itself so that it formed a bun. He used additional bobby pins (he prefers unique Japanese hairpins that are sold at Ray's Beauty Supply on 721 8th Avenue, NYC) to make sure all the hair in the ponytail was secured in the bun. Going back to the hair in front, he took each side and twisted it back behind the ear, pinning the ends into the bun.

Next, Cole created a deep side part with a rat-tail comb and then used the same comb to create two separate "regions": the front section from the crown of the head forward, and the remaining hair in the back, which he pulled into a ponytail. While working, he kept the hair smooth and straight by using Sebastian Zero Gravity Hairspray as he went.

A light mist of Sebastian Shaper Plus Hairspray was applied to lock everything in place. The end result? An uberchic updo that looks far more complicated than it is! "It would also work just as well with a middle part, and instead of pinning up the hair on the sides, you can also curl them with a large-barreled iron and have them hang around the face for a romantic look," says Cole.

To evoke the same sixties mood in a way that’s appropriate for school, she suggests creating a cat-eye shape with Stila’s Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Curacao; keep the liner close to the lash line. Then, dab a smidgen of Vaseline on the lid for a dewy effect. "Just a little shine on the lid will perk up the whole face," she explains.

As for the skin, "Stacey [Bendet] loves a very pale, natural girl. You don't need to have a tan to look gorgeous!" says Myles, who advises you lucky girls out there with alabaster skin to always skip the bronzer. "Plus, with a strong eye statement like this, a pinch of soft blush, like MAC's Tenderling, is all you need to complete your look."

Finish off the eye look with a swipe of her favorite drugstore mascara, L’Oreal Voluminous in Black. "It really is the best—and not just because of the affordable price!" she says.
