How Norwegian Singer Astrid S Took Over Oslo Fashion Week
Of course, there are the big fashion weeks twice a year in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, but then there are the smaller cities with emerging talent that also want their voices heard on a main stage. Enter Oslo Runway, a 3-day smaller scale Fashion Week, with an equal magnitude of talent as its larger counterparts. As a Scandanavian newbie, a friend of mine enlisted singer songwriter Astrid S to show me the ropes. After making her debut on Norway's version of Pop Idol in 2013, it's no surprise she's risen to fame quickly, with nearly half a million Instagram followers in her back pocket. Her top singles "2AM" and "Breathe" have garnered major global attention, not to mention she's lent her vocals to other artists, including Katy Perry and Aviici ... casual.
We met the evening I arrived, when I subtly crashed her W Magazine shoot at the Grand Oslo Hotel. Although she had been working since dawn, she greeted me with a big smile, and an even bigger hug. The next morning she arrived fresh-faced in a laid back streetwear look (she has the best collection of hoodies, seriously, check her Instagram)! "I’m influenced by so many different people. And I rarely think one person in particular has a great sense of style overall — if that makes sense. I’ll get inspired by an outfit from time to another. But lately, I’ve been looking at Sofia Richie on Instagram. She has good taste," she mentioned, while speaking about personal style. After a quick hair and make-up refresh, we were on our way. Up and at 'em! We kicked off the morning with croissants and a quick hair and make-up session at the hotel. Astrid opted for a sleek, stick straight hair look and natural make-up that would be hassle-free during her strenuous day.

2/7Behind the Seams
For the first show of the day, we hit up by TiMo, a brand known for their signature florals. The presentation was a seated brunch at Theatercaféen. Before the models walked out, Astrid and I took sneak preview of the collection and it did not disappoint.

3/7Made in the Shade
After a quick outfit change, we headed to the Iben show at the Deichmanske Bibliotek AKA the Oslo Public Library. With its tall standing columns, it set the ideal stage for a beautiful fashion show. The Iben girl makes dressing seem cool and effortless — just like Astrid. We caught up pre-show with the brand's designer, Ahn-Marthe Storheil.

4/7Street Style Star
We arrived early to our next show, Moods of Norway, and relaxed on the benches outside Sentralen, where Astrid was snapped up by a myriad of photographers. For this show, she opted for a casual pajama dressing look, adding in sneakers and a fanny pack to keep it fresh and in line with her personal style.

It seemed as though anyone who's anyone in the Oslo fashion scene was at Tom Wood that evening. Among the many friendly faces whom Astrid connected with, she spent some quality time with her choreographers, pictured here. Talk about epic personal style...

We absolutely loved the Tom Wood SS18 collection which continued to have a heavy focus on denim and offered updates on classic utilitarian shapes. "[It} was my favorite moment for sure. Their location was so beautiful! Right by the harbor in the afternoon sun. Their clothes were amazing, and they played Røyksopp in the background — one of my favorite Norwegian bands," Astrid added. After the show, in a sea of models...and blue jeans, we caught up with the team and the designers before heading out.

There's nothing like crashing real hard after a long day of shows. We ate room service in plush white robes no less, before heading to bed at the Grand Hotel. We're looking forward to catching up back in New York when Astrid is on tour in the US.
