Beauty Blogger Of The Moment: beautyxxgoddess
From trips to the mall with a friend to piece-by-piece breakdowns of her outfits, Mimi of beautyxxgoddess uses a tiny flip camera to give her viewers a major glimpse inside the life of a makeup-obsessed teen. With tidbits of her personal life and frequent shout-outs to her YouTube friends, she encapsulates the vivaciousness of the bustling beauty vlogging community. She started out shy, but you would never know it from her bubbly videos.
Merely 15 years old, the YouTube guru has garnered over 75,000 subscribers. Her content is always fun and totally focused on how any girl can enhance her natural beauty. She hopes that the public portrayal of her personal life will inspire other girls to break out of their shell and become empowered in their own way, too.
Mimi's close cyber friendships have helped her learn to toughen up her skin while also staying grounded, and the big-hearted blogger even donates some of her make-up mound to charity! Now that's beauty—both inside and out.

Age: 15
Date Started Vlogging: June 2008
Why did you initially decide to start a vblog?
I decided to start a vlog because I was beginning to become interested in makeup and fashion. I discovered YouTube to be a great learning tool. I loved watching the makeup tutorials and I thought it would be fun to make some myself. As strange as it sounds, I'm actually pretty shy, but when I'm in front of my camera, I can relax. Vlogging has helped me overcome some of those feelings. Now, I'm more outgoing than ever!

What is the story behind your vlog's title?
I'm not quite sure, actually! I remember thinking: I want to have the word "beauty" in my username rather than the word "makeup" because I don't want to have only makeup tutorials on my channel. I wanted to have everything beauty! I wish I had chosen a much simpler username, though!
If your vlog had a mission statement, what would it be?
If I had a mission statement, it would be to help alleviate young girls' anxieties by providing them with easy access to makeup, hair and fashion advice, and hopefully, in the process, make it fun. It would empower girls to feel more comfortable in their own skin.

What are your personal favorite blogs and vlogs? Why?
I love watching my "cyber" friends’ vlogs, such as sarahbelle93x, meghanrosette, macbarbie07, meganheartsmakeup, missglamorazzi, glamourista16, hayleyistcb, letsmakeitup1, michellephan and smokeypinkleopard. I also love watching non-beauty related channels like communitychannel, jennamarbles, charlieissocoollike, and shaytards!
What type of camera do you use?
I am currently using a Flip Mino HD which is great for on-the-go vlogs. I hope in the future to invest in a higher-quality video camera, but for right now I’m saving up for a car!

Where are your favorite places to shop?
Forever 21, Sephora, Ulta, J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, BCBG, Lilly Pulitzer, American Eagle—and I absolutely love the drugstore CVS!
Are there any trends you're particularly inspired by this season?
I love the classic St. Tropez trend: Nautical horizontal striped shirts, high heeled espadrilles, short shorts, short full skirts with tiny boyfriend blazers and white scarves. I also can't wait for the colder weather to roll around so I can bring out the skinny jeans and peacoats!

Any advice for anyone who wants to start her/his own vlog?
Ignore the haters, but also don't let too many flattering comments go to your head! One of my favorite quotations is actually from another YouTuber: "Don't let the nice comments go to your head or the mean comments go to your heart." Beauty is skin deep, so show not only your outer beauty but also your inner beauty as well. When you film, don't be afraid because you can always edit! Keep your content fresh and relevant, and as your subscribers grow, you may want to save up for a quality video camera (which I desperately need to do myself!).

What trend from the past would like to make a comeback?
The fashion trend from the past I am always drawn to is from the 1960s: structured tailoring, full dresses and skirts, and bows and heels—like the TV show Madmen. I could dress up every day!
What beauty product(s) can you not live without?
My L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara in Carbon Black, a good bronzer that's not too orange, a hot pink blush, Satin Taupe eyeshadow by MAC, a black eyeliner, an eyebrow pencil and a dark red nail polish.

What are the best aspects of running your own vlog? What are the hardest aspects?
One of the best aspects of having my own vlog are some of the other beauty gurus I've met online. I've become very close "cyber" friends with a few of them, and they help me by offering support and advice, both with my blog and with my personal life. I love, love, love trying out new makeup and hair products, so I now have an excuse to buy and try them! More importantly, my blog allows me the opportunity to donate to one of my favorite local charities.
One of the hardest aspects of having a blog are the hate comments coming from people in the online world and in real life. People say cruel things about me, my friends and my family even when they don't know me. It has definitely toughened my skin, though!
What's your daily makeup routine?
It all depends on what I'm doing that day. If I'm going to be swimming, a swipe of waterproof mascara and waterproof eyeliner will do the trick. If it's a school day, I apply a face powder, bronzer, blush and sometimes a highlighter for my cheekbones. Then I do a neutral eye with a little bit of black eyeliner and black mascara. I usually don't do my lips for school because it wears off so easily!

How long have you been into makeup?
I wasn't always into dolling myself up with my mother's makeup! It started when I was around 12. I began to become fascinated with the world of makeup, hair and nails. I used to sneak on some gray eyeliner and mascara in the mornings before school when I was 12 or 13, and to this day, my mom has no idea!
Do you prefer drugstore or high-end makeup brands?
I like both drugstore and high-end makeup brands, and I like mixing them up. I love the packaging of higher-end cosmetics, such as NARS. I only use drugstore mascara. Nothing beats drugstore prices!
What/who is your makeup inspiration?
I love the way Olivia Palermo dresses and does her makeup. She has such modern style while still staying feminine, classic and clean looking.

If you had a thousand dollars to spend on makeup, what would you buy?
I would go to the drugstore, MAC and Sephora, and mix it up between high-end brands and drugstore brands. I would create a few gift baskets with my favorite makeup products in them, and give them away to my subscribers!
What's in your travel beauty bag?
I don't usually carry around a travel beauty bag on a daily basis. When I do, it's because I'm either going to a friend's house or going swimming. I usually carry Benetint by Benefit, a waterproof mascara and maybe some eyeliner. I like to keep it simple if I'm going to be on-the-go!
Most memorable makeup faux pas?
I am actually not much of a daredevil when it comes to playing with makeup. I like to keep it simple and usually neutral. I guess you could say wearing huge false eyelashes when we were just going out to dinner was a little over-the-top!
