Let Selena Gomez, Willow Smith, and Chiara Ferragni Show You the New Way to Wear a Suit

- 1/12
By now, everyone has figured out that suits are the new party dresses — the challenge is standing out in a crowd full of tuxes. But, as this week’s celebrity looks proved, suits don’t always have to consist of matching blazers and pants, and they definitely don’t have to be formal.
From sweet skirt sets to pink puffer coats, style stars pushed the boundaries and set new rules this week. Bella Hadid donned leather, Kendall Jenner went the sporty route, and Selena Gomez made us seriously rethink sweats. These new looks allow you to instantly update last year’s gear, appear instantly put together, and make you totally rethink your closet. Bye bye boundaries, hello fresh spring style.

WHO: Kendall Jenner
WORE: A striped crop top with matching leggings, a black jacket, and aviator sunnies.
WHERE: Leaving the Miu Miu show during Paris Fashion Week.
WHY: Kendall’s two-piece definitely has an athletic feel, but with a matching belt and a long black coat she makes it work more for a romp around Paris than a trip to the gym.

WHO: Olivia Palermo
WORE: A fuzzy green, yellow, and black coat over black leather pants.
WHERE: Arriving at the Christian Dior show in Paris.
WHY: Because there’s no better way to break up a suit than adding a little texture. With patent leather, bright colors, and a little fuzz, the style star totally gets it right. - /Bauer-Griffin/GC Images4/12
WHO: Selena Gomez
WORE: A Vetements sweatsuit and Jimmy Choo sandals.
WHERE: Leaving LAX.
WHY: Let’s get real: All we really want to wear to the airport (and, um, all the time). Selena makes it socially acceptable by pairing matching bright colors and adding a super sleek pump.

WHO: Chiara Ferragni
WORE: A pink blazer, matching tunic, and grey ankle boots.
WHERE: Out and about during Paris Fashion Week.
WHY: The best way to break up a monochromatic look is with a bright pop of color. Chiara’s oversized purple shades add the perfect touch — and make for the coolest accessory ever.

WHO: Bella Hadid
WORE: A black moto jacket, white t-shirt and choker, and lace-up leather pants.
WHERE: Out and about in Paris.
WHY: Seriously, how else would you expect Bella Hadid to wear a suit? If this week’s trends have taught us anything, it’s that there’s nothing cooler than being yourself and wearing whatever you want. - Photo: Pierre Suu/Getty Images8/12
WHO: Devon Windsor
WORE: A white lace dress, fluffy white coat, and lace-up pumps.
WHERE: Arriving at the Givenchy Fall 016 show in Paris.

WHO: Lara Stone

WHO: Julia Sarr-Jamois
WORE: A massive pink puffer coat, dark pink pants, and Louis Vuitton boots.
WHERE: Heading to shows at Paris Fashion Week.
WHY: Leave it to this star stylist (the one behind Amandla Stenberg’s Teen Vogue cover) to finally make the puffer coat chic. We only have a few more weeks of cold weather to try this style out, but give it a try anyway.
