“[This] is particularly suited to those with a fair complexion and light-colored eyes,” says Rita Hazan, founder of her eponymous NYC-based salon and product line and celebrity colorist (she counts Beyoncé and Katy Perry as clients). Since you're removing the pigment from your hair to get it this light, Rita adds that this will leave your strands fragile and could mean cutting your hair down the line — especially if you don't commit to regular conditioning treatments. 8/31Seeing Shadows
Looks Like: Ribbons of highlights with a shadow along the root. “Keep the root a level darker than the rest of your strands to create dimension and contrast,” explains Rachel Bodt, a celebrity colorist at Cutler salon in NYC. “When highlights start right at your scalp, it can look dated (think: old-school Britney in the early 2000s) and unnatural.” Ask your color pro to paint highlights a little further down. If you brighten up all over, have them tint a faux root along your part.

9/31Babylights
“This is a great way to blonde-ify your hair without seeing too many streaks of color,” Rachel explains. “The roots are colored but it's super soft and minimal. Then it gets a bit brighter in the middle, and is lightest at the ends.” The look is totally reminiscent of the way the sun naturally lightened up your locks when you were a kiddo. Some clients even bring beach pics of them when they were little to use as inspo.

You know how the gold butterfly filter makes you look insanely good? This is the hair color version of that. Golden blonde highlights warms up your skin and — like actual gold — catches the light in the prettiest, sparkliest way ever (cue 1,000+ selfies). According to Rachel, you should ask your colorist to warm up the gloss with a slightly deeper gold at the root and a lighter gold on the rest of the hair so it doesn't all blend together.

This is the last shade of blonde before you’re in the white zone. While this looks seriously badass, it's important to keep in mind that it requires a ton of maintenance (you’ll need touch ups on the reg), a boatload of money, and it takes a serious toll on your hair. But if you’re cool with all that — it looks hella fierce. Nicola Clarke, creative color director for Color Wow recommends asking for sections of ice-white tones mixed in to give life and dimension.

If you love wearing rose-gold jewels or live for all-pink-everything, consider this twist on strawberry-blonde strands. Want to road test Debbie Ryan's look? "Either use a gloss for shine or use a more translucent color so it still has dimension," Rita advises if you go for an inky black or rich brunette color sans highlights. If you needed further proof that you can still rock a rainbow shade as the cold weather approaches, Rita confirms the trend is showing no signs of slowing down. "Fun, pastel hair isn't going anywhere," she says. "The new take is layering rainbow shades," she adds, which can mean going for several bold colors or copying Rihanna by mixing multiple tones from the same color family. "If you don't like it there's no harm done," she explains since you'll only have to pre-lighten the sections getting the rainbow color. "If you do like it, you can always add more."
