If the idea of cutting your curls sounds way too scary right now, try a going for the faux cut look. Get a ton of bobby pins and start pinning random pieces of hair back. It’s messy, yet still looks well put together thanks to the length that’s on top. To maintain a style like this, be sure to use a leave-in conditioner like the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Leave-In Conditioner to avoid frizz and keep curls looking moisturized.

Solange Knowles
This shapely cut works great for all curl types, but keep in mind that it’s a look that requires lots of volume. Use a diffuser like the Devachan Devafuser on wet or damp hair to help keep the voluminous shape.

Amandla Stenberg
It might be a style that your mom rocked back in the day, but the afro has made a serious comeback in our time. If you’ve got tight or coarse curls, this is a great style for you to try. (Loose curls can try, but you won’t get that much-needed volume at the top.) The only key rule when it comes to maintaining an afro like this is to make sure that you add in tons of moisturizer. Try Ouidad Curl Immersion Hi-Defining Custard.

The key to maintaining a piece-y style like this is to simply avoid frizz. Use a light holding serum like the OGX Hydration Oil on the hair when it’s wet or damp and let air-dry without touching it.

Take a high note from Demi and exaggerate your waves by creating a funky (but fun!) finger wave look. Use a serious holding spray like Pantene Extra Strong Hold Hairspray to make the look last.

Taylor Swift
This is a #throwback, but Taylor has always had the best long, wavy curls. Keep waves from falling flat by using a curl enhancer like the Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer on wet hair and then blow-drying with a diffuser.

If you’ve got dense, heavy curls, lean toward this layered cut that will let you show off all the volume that your strands can stand. Use a root volumizer like the Living Proof Full Root Lift and go over pieces with a curling wand like the T3 Whirl Convertible to maintain the look.

Vanessa Hudgens
Not quite a pixie, but closer to a bob, this cutesy style is great for those who might be cutting their curls for the first time. Have fun playing with texture by using a holding spray like the Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode.

Lobs, which are basically long bobs, are one of the best hairstyles to wear – especially if you cut your hair super short and are growing it back out. But, if you aren’t looking to have an angular look (i.e. triangle hair), make sure that you find a stylist that will cut your hair dry so you can see the weight and length that’s being taken out as they cut along. Your hairstylist will need to cut into the actual hair and not straight across as this method can quickly lead to a geometric look. Be sure to let hair air dry when wearing this style and use a curl cream like the MOP C-System C-Curl Defining Cream to add extra hold without the crunch.

Go big or go home! Add pizzazz to your layers by adding extra volume at the top. Use a leave-in conditioner like the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil and dry hair at the top with a diffuser

Go for angular glam and play up your texture like Janelle with this funky, asymmetrical cut. Use a hydrating spray like the ORS Oil Sheen Spray to add subtle shine.

Yara Shahidi
It’s pretty hard not to develop a serious case of #curlenvy when looking at Yara’s hair. But, most importantly, her styles are easy to steal if you’ve got the right hairstylist and products. Maintain a low-key look like this by using a daily moisturizer like the Amla Legend Rejuvenating Oil.
