1/6"Capezio is like a lifelong friend," says Betsey Johnson of her relationship with the dancewear company. The designer, known for her dance-inspired dresses (tutus galore!) and bold use of color, created a capsule collection for the brand, and we've got your first look. From lacy leotards and printed sports bras to brightly colored leg warmers, this collection was made to make a statement on the dancefloor. 2/6What inspired the collaboration?
Dance and activewear is my favorite kind of clothing. It stretches and moves with the body— it is made for movement! I've hoped and waited for a collaboration like this for years and years. I also love that it's geared towards younger girls. They want fun and color, interesting cuts and dimensions.
3/6What was your inspiration for the collection?
Giving it the big Betsey bang! This collection is very "Betsey ballerina". The collaboration will evolve, but right now it's true blue me with my stripes, roses, sparkles and more!
4/6Do you have a favorite piece from the collection?
The pieces I will wear most of course are the tutus!
5/6How would you style the collection?
Just do what comes naturally! Ballet shoes or barefoot! As long as you enjoy yourself and how you feel.
6/6Why was Maddie your choice to front the campaign?
I fell in love with Maddie and her dancing when I got to first meet her during the Dancing With the Stars competition and again at the reunion.
I would tell myself to try as many different things as possible! College is an amazing time to experiment, indulge your interests, and find out what you’re truly passionate about. What fashion item seems to always be on your shopping list?
