Fashion Blogger Photo Shoot Diaries: Bryanboy and Julia Frakes Celebrate Ten Years of Marc By Marc Jacobs
I'm taking you behind the scenes at the Marc by Marc Jacobs shoot with two of the best bloggers in the biz, Bryanboy's Bryan Gray Yambao and Bunny Bisous' Julia Frakes. The original idea behind the shoot was that Bryan and Julia would photograph each other styling and trying on outfits from the Marc by Marc Jacobs 10th anniversary collection. I was inspired by the off-the-cuff photography I see on blogs like theirs, Fashion Toast, and Sea of Shoes, and I wanted to try to capture that spirit for the pages on ran full page, and I am now accepting commissions for ad campaigns and the like. Anyone who is interested in my services should please contact my agent. (Just kidding! We did have a blast, though).

One of the things I love about Julia is that she's a risk-taker. She's game for anything. For this shoot, she wanted to try hair that was in the spirit of the Marc Jacobs spring 2011 runway show —ie: teased into a wild fro. To get the look, hairstylist Marcos Diaz first created tiny cornrows with her hair. Here he is with the amazing Sarah Glick, who is doing Julia's makeup.

Bryan arrived on-set in a chic black hat, polka dot shirt, and with his signature oversized Birkin (on the floor in the background)—in other words, looking picture perfect. Here he is styling some Marc by Marc pieces to his liking. The apple belt was a big hit on the set. We basically had free reign of the studio, and we were like kids in a candy shop there. For one of the shots, Julia and Bryan jumped on the couch in the reception area, and posed under the Marc by Marc Jacobs sign. For another, we snuck into an empty office that was full of balloons. Don't ask me what the balloons were doing in there. All I can say is that we definitely enjoyed them!

As you can see from the way they're dressed, it was a COLD day in New York City. We did a few shots outside, and poor Julia just had on a little sundress and t-shirt. There was actually snow on the streets, so it was quite a surreal sight. Before she turned blue, I suggested we run into a magazine shop on Spring and Lafayette for our last shot of the day. The store is called Lafayette Smoke Shop, and they have the best selection of international magazines in the city. It's where I go to find all the international editions of Vogue, from Vogue Nippon to Paris Vogue. The owner was nice enough to let us in there, but we had to work around the customer traffic. A little tricky, but worth it! In the end, that's the shot we used for the story. Here, Julia and Bryan are riding the elevator down post-shoot. After we said goodbye, they headed off for lunch and some shopping—the perfect reward for a hard day's work!
