12 Celebrities Who Went Through Friendship Breakups
We’ve all had that one friendship we thought would last forever. The Miranda to our Lizzy, the Chelsea to our Raven, the Monica to our Rachel, the Michelle to our Romy, however you want to slice it, the small and big screens have once again provided fans fictional relationships filled with lies. It turns out, in real life friendships aren’t always as cut and dry, and eternally awesome as a Friends rerun— sometimes friendships run their course. When that happens, bestie bracelets get snipped, matching tattoos get nixed, and occasionally a good song comes out of a platonic split, a la “Bad Blood.” Not only does a breakup with a friend suck, to put it lightly, but this type of falling out can often hurt more than a romantic one.
Here are 15 celebs who have felt your pain when their “best friend forever” wasn't exactly true. The good news? Some of these pairs have mended their relationships, meaning there is hope.

Cabello left her successful musical group, Fifth Harmony, in December, with hopes that her former girl gang would be supportive, and root for her new endeavors to come as a solo artist. Spoiler alert: they didn’t, and Cabello’s heart took a heavy hit. The artist told Entertainment Tonight that she reached out to the remaining Fifth Harmony members, but only received radio silence in return.
In an interview with Flaunt, Cabello explained why she believes a friendship breakup is a harder pill to swallow than a romantic one. “In a romantic relationship you think, this is amazing, this is beautiful, I love this person, but there’s a part of you that’s always prepared for it to end,” said Cabello. “I feel with a friendship you think it’s going to last forever. You start to consider that person like your family and so you don’t see an end to that. So when it’s like a shocking or abrupt ending that’s worse.” Cabello seemingly documents the pain of her deteriorating friendship in her song, “I Have Questions,” released this May.
“I gave you all of me/My blood, my sweat, my heart, and my tears/Why don’t you care, why don’t you care? I was there, I was there, when no one was/Now you’re gone and I’m here,” Cabello’s verse reads.

Kim and Paris, once childhood friends, ultimately parted ways. Kim used to work for Hilton back in the day, but shots were fired during a 2008 radio interview when the “Confessions of an Heiress” author said that she wouldn’t want Kim’s rear end because it “reminds [her] of cottage cheese inside a big trash bag.” Ouch.
Today, however, the two are back on speaking terms, wishing each other well on Instagram and during interviews. Even though the long-term friends have cleared the air, it’s unlikely they’ll ever get back to their full-fledged, matching Louis Vuitton BFF status.

The reality queen, 36, and Chy were definitely tight before “Kyga” made social media headlines. In fact, they were so buddy-buddy that E News! chronicled a timeline of their friendship. Chyna was even present the day Kimye said “I do” in Italy. However, their relationship has seemingly taken a turn for the worse post-nuptials— perhaps due to Chyna’s rocky relationships with Kim’s younger siblings, Rob and Kylie.
In an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim addressed her former friendship.
“I understand that Kylie dating Tyga completely broke Chyna’s heart. I feel for her in that situation,” she said. “Was it uncomfortable for me when Kylie and Tyga started to date? Absolutely, because Chyna was my friend. But I had no choice but to take my sister’s side. That’s my sister.”

Remember when Paris and Nicole would scream their notorious made-up song, “sanasa”? It’s pretty hard to erase that high-pitched sound bite. These two were practically attached at the hip on their hit reality show, The Simple Life, where the team tried different jobs on for size, and failed spectacularly at all of them. The two complimented each other like a walking yin and yang, even donning matching denim suits at one point. All was well until Nicole no longer thought the words “loves it” when seeing her partner-in-crime. According to People, Richie’s friends said that the two called it quits when the Candidly Nicole star reportedly grew out of the party scene. But Paris said something more cryptic, according to People.
“It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends,” she said. “Nicole knows what she did, and that’s all I’m ever going to say about it.”
Sometimes people just grow away from one another.

A rift between the two singers emerged when the “Roar” singer gave Rihanna’s romantic choices a big, metaphorical thumbs down. When Rih briefly got back together with Chris Brown, it reportedly didn’t sit well with her BFF. A source told UsWeekly that "they aren't tight anymore because Perry doesn't approve of Rihanna dating Chris Brown."

Perry used to be best buds with Kristen Stewart up until KStew and Robert Pattinson ended things in May, 2013. Perry was close with both of the stars, and was reportedly backed into a corner on who she should remain friends with. As the “Firework” singer continued to hangout with the Twilight prince, Kristen’s fangs came out when she suspected something more was going on. As a result, the pals apparently cut ties.
The Independent reports that Perry tried to clear her name: "I sent her [Stewart] a text message saying: 'I know you've seen all this stuff, but you know I would never disrespect you. I'm not that person. I'm just trying to be a friend to him, but it is unfortunate that I do have a set of tits.’”

The tumultuous relationship between Taylor and Katy is no secret. These two used to be cool, but have since seemingly aired out all their dirty laundry publicly via hit songs. But what sparked this mutual hatred for one another? Well, it’s been said that Katy lured a number of Taylor's backup dancers away to join her dance team. "She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me," Swift said in her 2014 Rolling Stone cover story. The feud reportedly inspired Swift’s diss song, “Bad Blood,” allegedly aimed at Perry. Katy, though, confronted their beef on an episode of The Late Show With James Corden.
"Honestly, it's really like she started it and it's time for her to finish it," Perry said while driving around with Corden. She then went on to explain how she made attempts to talk to the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer, but was ignored. "It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I'm like, 'Okay, cool, cool, cool, that's how you want to deal with it? Karma!'" A few moments later she talked about “the law of cause and effect,” saying “you do something, and there’s gonna be a reaction”

I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now." Lovato has since unfollowed and re-followed the “It Ain’t Me” singer. Now, however, the dream team is back in business, as Lovato’s latest tweet to Gomez lets on.

It’s unclear what made Demi Lovato kick Miley Cyrus to the curb, or vice versa. But in a radio interview on “The TJ Show” on Boston’s 103.3 AMP Radio, Lovato was drilled by a fan on her standing with Cyrus, according to Entertainment Tonight. The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer verbally distanced herself from her fellow Disney Channel starlet by labeling their relationship “acquaintances.” “It's life, and people change. I don't have anything in common with her anymore,” Lovato said. “I wish her the best."
This May, the two did share one thing in common: sobriety. Lovato applauded Cyrus on staying clean in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I am really proud of Miley," she said. "I think that it helps people to know that there are people in the spotlight that have challenges, that are faced with very stressful lives. I think it helps to know that recovery is possible and it’s something that is so important to certain people like myself."

I’ll miss you brotha,” the tweets continued. “Loyalty is key.” “ALWAYS remember where you came from.” Later, Bell told Entertainment Tonight that he regretted his twitter rant, and should have just texted Josh. To everyone’s delight, the duo squashed their beef and hugged/bro-ed it out at the VMAs this August, tweeting an image of their warm embrace.
