The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala hosts one of the most anticipated red carpets of the year. Unlike the Oscars or the Grammys, the Met Gala focuses primarily on fashion. Each year, the event is theme-based, and designers and celebrities pull out all the stops to arrive at the perfect interpretation. It’s kind of like a glorified 80s party but with celebrities and couture, which, as you might imagine, has made for some very memorable moments over the years.
This year’s theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” is sure to give the concept of wearable tech a whole new meaning. In the meantime, let’s look back on the last five year’s most memorable looks.

Blake Lively
In her Gossip Girl heyday, [Blake Lively] (http://www.teenvogue.com/tag/blake-lively) and her character were almost indistinguishable. When she showed up on the red carpet wearing this short Marchesa dress, we were sure that Serena Vanderwoodsen had just made an appearance, sans Chuck Bass.

Miley Cyrus

Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian’s love for high fashion became very apparent in 2013 when she showed off her baby bump in skin tight custom Givenchy gown. Emma Stone
When Emma Stone stepped out on the red carpet wearing this two-piece Thakoon dress, all anyone could talk about was midriffs and pink. Her belly baring statement helped usher in last year’s trend of crop tops on the red carpet.

Zendaya
Zendaya is a red carpet chameleon. She can go from edgy to glam in an instant, and the 2015 Met Gala was the perfect combination of both. Her Fausto Puglisi gown was the best display of “party in the front, business in the back” that we’ve ever seen in formalwear.

Rihanna
Possibly the most meme’d red carpet look of all time, Rihanna’s 2015 “China: Through The Looking Glass” Met Gala gown was one for the record books.
