Here's an Exclusive First Look at Debby Ryan's New TV Role
Photo: Barbara Nitke/NBC1/6When Debby Ryan dyed her hair red for her big return to TV, we were initially so excited. Was this...? Could it be...? Was she returning to the small screen as Jessie?
Sadly, she wasn't — but it's a bittersweet sort of sadness, as she booked something that might even be better: the actress will be starring alongside Debra Messing for a special plotline on The Mysteries of Laura. And now, Teen Vogue has the exclusive photos of Debby's role.
She'll play Lucy Diamond, Laura's half-sister, who — get this — is a suspect in a murder case. "My boyfriend gets murdered and there's a target on my back," Debby told us. Talk about suspense.
But Debby's favorite part of the whole shoot? Working with Debra and the rest of the crew. "To be able to come up and just have that kind of energy on set with her, you know...it's a really warm and inviting set so it's really nice for me to be able to literally walk in and just be like, 'alright, let's go, we're acting!' We're toe-to-toe and it's so fun. We're yelling at each other, there's interrogation room scenes, it's really emotional. I lose someone that I care about."
Debby's episode will air on Wednesday, February 24 — but until then, here's a first look at Lucy Diamond, the sister nobody knew Laura had...until now.

It's not JUST a hobby because we worked super hard on it, but it's one of those things that I just never want to make my job because then I feel like I'll lose the love for it."

Photo: Paul Sarkis/NBC5/6But at the end of the day, even if her character is suspected of murder, Debby had a great time. "It's just an amazing season finale," she told us. "It's an honor for me to just come in so late into the game and have everyone be so lovely about it."
