Backstage Beauty: DKNY Fall/Winter 2012
Makeup artist James Kliardos never ceases to amaze, and his work for Diane Von Furstenberg'a Fall/Winter 2012 show was no exception. Inspired by "the surrealist thirties and a mysterious rendezvouz," Kaliardos created a fresh-faced heroine, whose flushed cheeks and pink pout were the perfect complement to her heavy, smoky metallic eyes.
After applying MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Gel to hydrate models' skin, he followed with MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation to even out skin tone. Then he used MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette (available Fall 2012) only where needed to perfect the complexion, and MAC Pure Sculpture Pro Sculpting Cream (available Fall 2012) was blended over cheeks for contour.
Next, Kaliardos used a combo of MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder and MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Grey Utility, blending them through the lashes along the waterline to make the eyes pop. Then, he layered MAC Linger Softly Pro Longwear Eye Shadow (available Fall 2012) on top to set and diffuse the liner. To give the eyes their "midnight glossy shine," he applied MAC Pro Gloss Texture and a bit of MAC Eye Kohl in Blooz onto the eyelids. He finished the eyes with MAC Chromaline liner in Black to define the roots of the lashes, and MAC Studio Fix Lash mascara in Black on both upper and lower lashes.
To balance out the dramatic eyes, the lips were kept relatively simple. Kaliardos used MAC Lip Conditioner SPF 15 to hydrate lips and give them a natural shine along with a hint of MAC Lip Pencil in Soar, just to give a blush of color.

Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Charlotte Willer wanted to create a "minimalist, youthful appeal" for the DKNY show. A bold brow frames an otherwise fresh face, bringing definition to this understated yet sophisticated look.
After applying concealer under and around the eyes to hide dark circles, Charlotte dusted the skin with powder for a natural, matte finish. Then, the eyebrows were groomed and a wax pencil was used to create a bold brow. To add a warm, luminous touch to the look, a marbleized eye shadow was swept over the entire eyelid. To finish off the eyes, two coats of lash-boosting mascara were applied to the top lashes only. On the lips, Willer used a clear, hydrating lip balm.

Wella Professionals Creative Director Eugene Souleiman decided to go with an elegant, sleek ponytail this season. "The collection is very elegant, almost like evening wear, so I wanted to create a hair look that was rich and refined but also with a hint of youth to bring the evening feeling back to a fresher day look," he says.
To create this sleek pony, it's all about proper preparation of the hair. Begin by washing and conditioning the hair. Apply a styling serum and then a smoothing product, like Wella Professionals' Flowing Form Smoothing Balm, to wet hair. Blow dry the hair with a round brush for a smooth finish. Create a deep side part and pull the hair toward the back of the head. Apply a little hairspray before running a straightening iron through the hair to make locks stick together at it cools. Finally, pull the hair back behind the ears and secure your low ponytail with a wide, barrette-like clip. Spray the hair one more time with hairspray to keep the style in place.

To complete the minimalist and fresh runway beauty look, Essie Weingarten used a subtle nail color to go with the neutral palate of the clothes. "The collection features classic shades of black and navy, which we have complemented with a neutral nail for a balanced, polished, and sophisticated look," she says. To get the look, apply two coats of Essie's Brooch the Subject and finish with a top coat.
