"Don't try to be timeless. There are so few truly classic looks out there, and attempts to achieve them often end up being predictable or boring. When you look back at your prom pictures, they will tell you so much about that moment in time, and trends are tied to that moment too. A little bit of trend is a good thing!"

"A lot of girls worry about what boys (and other girls) will think of their dress. Choose something that screams, 'This is me!' You may want to stick with the latest trends, but it's important to stay true to who you are and pick something that looks and feels great. And don't wear heels you can't walk in! Choose a low heel or a wedge heel with an ankle strap, or just wear a cute flat if you have trouble walking."

"It's fun to take risks and to explore your style. Pair contrasting elements and personalize your look with unexpected items to make it unique to you. If you're not a huge fan of accessories, do something new with your hair or wear a vibrant lipstick. I personally consider those 'accessories' as well. And remember: It's better to be slightly overdressed then underdressed!"

"Don't look too overdone by wearing too much jewelry or makeup or anything that's flashy and overpowers you. It's so important to seem effortless; you want who you are to come through. You don't need a lot of accessories—one really great piece of jewelry is enough. It's cooler not to carry a bag, and it frees your arms up to dance. You don't see Michelle Obama going to the Inaugural Ball with a big handbag!"
