7 New TV Shows You Need to Watch This Season

- 1/8
Although the end of summer can be a bummer, going back to school means your favorite standby TV shows (and soon-to-be-favorite new ones) will soon be saving you from a seemingly endless season of summer reruns. Like sci-fi thrillers? Then you're going to love The 100. Dig historical dramas? Tune in to for Reign. Miss the old-school family sitcoms of yore? Give Surviving Jack a try. One thing's for sure: Your DVR will be working overtime this fall.

Super Fun Night
Where: ABC
When: October 2
Why: Wednesday nights are about to be, well, super fun! Rebel Wilson stars in (and impressively serves as the lead writer for) this comedy about three single besties and their social misadventures in the big city. Bonus: Ashley Tisdale plays Rebel's little sister, which is just so unbelievably perfect.

The Originals
Where: The CW
When: October 3
Why: Love The Vampire Diaries? Then you can't miss this spin-off that focuses on the Mikaelson clan, the world's original—and potentially most attractive—vampires. We're thrilled to see Teen Vogue favorite Phoebe Tonkin, who was phenomenal on the short-lived Secret Circle, return to the small screen.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland
Where: ABC
When: October 10
Why: There are a gazillion reasons to tune in to this fanciful fairy tale drama about what happens when Alice in Wonderland's protagonist grows up and falls in love, but we're most excited to see the elaborate, magical costumes. If anyone knows how to work a ballgown, it's Alice—especially when she's played by gorgeous Australian star Sophie Lowe.

The Goldbergs
Where: ABC
When: September 24
Why: If you've already powered through The Wonder Years on Netflix, you'll dig this nostalgic family sitcom. Filmed from the viewpoint of a quirky little brother, this set-in-the-'80s show is based off real footage the producer took of his big, loud family as a kid.

Reign
Where: The CW
When: October 17
Why: This new drama is about the unknown, untold (and, in some cases, untrue (what does this mean exactly?)) story of Mary Queen of Scots' rise to power. Sure, it's a period drama, but since it's on the same network that brought you Gossip Girl, it's going to be exciting—not antiquated.

The 100
Where: The CW
When: Midseason
Why: Almost a century after a nuclear war destroys Earth, 100 young survivors are ordered to leave the spaceships they've been residing in to recolonize the planet. Far-out, right? It's based on a sci-fi YA series that has yet to hit shelves (but has already garnered rave reviews!), so the show's sure to be a hit, too.

Surviving Jack
Where: FOX
When: Midseason
Why: The chronicle of an awkward but endearing freshman boy attempting—and sometimes failing—to navigate a new high school, this comedy is based on Justin Halpern's hilarious memoir, I Suck at Girls. Connor Buckley stars as a realistic (and really cute!) teen, but you'll also love his big sister, played by Hart of Dixie alum Claudia Lee.
