Fashion Industry Insiders in High School

"This photo was taken while I was visiting my pen pal friend Riri (pen pals were all the rage back then), who's a DJ in Bangkok, during a Christmas vacation. Friends come and go over the years but J'adore Dior forever! I spent most of my academic years at a co-ed Catholic school, and we had to wear uniforms. My style outside the campus was fairly fashion victim-y, which is probably why I am what I am now. wink I went through various phases over the years; I used to obsess over Tom Ford for Gucci and of course, John Galliano for Dior. I had all the ad campaigns posted on my bedroom wall. Gisele Bundchen and Carmen Kass? Check. Angela Lindvall? Double check."

"I'd wear my dad's sweaters and was really into brand-name t-shirts. When I was twelve, there was a trend of wearing baggy jeans, kind of what you would call raver pants now. When I was fifteen, I got a pair of '60s Mary-Jane platforms that I wore pretty much every day. I didn't have any muses really. I have always had a mind of my own, never tried to copy anyone. The only person that was iconic to me was Twiggy."

"I was always the odd one out in high school. Even though I went to an all-girl, grey-uniform Catholic high school, I always managed to dress to the beat of my own drum. I raised a few eyebrows here and there, especially with the principal, who reprimanded me a few times for wearing something that was too risque or 'un-Christian,' like these flared grey pants I had my mom make me. Or skirts that were too short."
