Tyra of FashionWithTy: Beauty Blogger of the Moment
Tyra, of FashionWithTy, is a New York City girl with plenty of beauty tips to go around. Being immersed in big-city culture inspires the blogger to constantly evolve her look, which she continuously shares with her viewers. Tyra's on-the-go lifestyle makes for an eclectic spread of videos, which includes nail trends to try, makeup for school, DIY hand scrubs, and even a tutorial she calls FashionwithDad where her father teachers viewers how to make a summertime smoothie!
As if making YouTube videos wasn't enough of an after-school activity, Tyra participates in her high school clubs, takes a college course, and is the captain of the tennis team. Find out how she manages to stay on top of it all, while still making time to hang out in Central Park and go shopping with friends.

When and why did you first decide to start your channel?
I created FashionWithTy on May 22, 2010, but didn't start seriously making videos until later that summer. My best friend Adin and I were obsessed with beauty gurus Juicystar07, Meganheartsmakeup, and Macbarbie07. We became fascinated with the YouTube beauty world and were amazed at the opportunities available to people with channels, so we decided to make FashionWithTy. Adin had to go to away to camp that summer and I had an arm injury from tennis camp, so I spent a lot of time at home during those months. I watched a ton of beauty tutorials and was inspired to start making videos!
What's your beauty philosophy?
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. It's more important to start becoming proud of who you are because eventually you will blossom into the person you want to be. Don't let others control how you think—define it for yourself.

Where do you get ideas or inspiration for your tutorials?
Magazines and beauty blogs! I tend to keep my makeup tutorials very natural since I like to feature looks that people can wear during the day. I'm also constantly inspired by where I live—New York City! Everyone's so different and unique and looks are constantly changing, so I begin to change my tutorials as a result of my surroundings.
Besides vlogging, what's a typical day like for you?
During the school year, I'm a member of tons of clubs and I'm also the captain of the tennis team, which requires I practice tennis three times a week from six to eight at night. I also try to be enroll in at least one college course a year, which requires I attend that class two times a week. Since I'm so busy during the week, I try to pre-film and edit all my videos on the weekends. When I'm with friends, we like to go down to Soho to get some serious shopping done or we visit some of our favorite thrift stores. We'll also head to Central Park or see a movie.

What's your favorite hairstyle to create?
During the school year, I love to curl my hair and add a braid on one side of my head so my curls aren't so plain and boring! During the summer, I love to do my no-heat beach waves because it requires less effort to create, it's easier to manage, and I love how natural it looks!
** What was the hardest tutorial you've ever filmed and why?**
My first makeup tutorial, "How To Make Brown Eyes Pop!" I didn't know what I was doing and I had no idea of how to film. I didn't realize that you had to consider the lighting, camera quality, different cool visuals, and informative voice-overs. It's so funny to look at that video now, because I'm able to see how far I've come!

Do you have advice for a reader that wants to start a channel?
Don't be scared of what other people may think! One of my major concerns was what people would think about me when they found out I had a channel. At first, when people found out, they thought it was really weird. One time, someone took a screenshot of a picture from my channel and set it as the background of some of the computers in my school. It was so embarrassing, but I explained to my classmates why I enjoy making videos and the opportunities that comes from having a channel and then they all thought it was really cool. The major things YouTubers have to deal with is negativity. It's something that's always going to exist on the internet and we have no control over it, so why not make the most of what we do have control over, which is enjoying what we create.

What's in your makeup bag right now?
My summer makeup bag includes my MAC Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15 in Deep Dark, NYX Full Coverage Concealer in Nutmeg, MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Dark, e.l.f. Brow Setting Gel, Sephora Advanced Lash Booster, NYX Stick Blush in Tea Rose, Benefit Cha Cha Tint, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Liner in Underground, and Smoky Sephora Gel Liner in Black! My lip colors change daily, so I usually bring a variety of lip products but I always pack my EOS Lemon Lip Balm.
