Gigi Hadid turns 21 today, which reminds us that in two short decades, she’s basically done it all. Her insane career has included campaigns with Maybelline, Vogue covers, and a spot in the coveted Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show lineup. More importantly, we now know of magical culinary creations like the Cinnabon waffle thanks to her Snapchat.
In honor of the model’s birthday, we hit rewind on her greatest beauty moments. While Gigi is primarily known for her beachy, Southern California aesthetic (think tousled waves and a perpetual glow), she’s also had plenty of unexpected makeup and hair moments on the red carpet. Sadly, we’re in the dark concerning the details of her birthday beauty prep, but we’re willing to bet that she’ll bring her A-game (as is the case in everything else she does). Click through our slideshow to watch as she models red lips, red lids, and everything in between.

Lash Love
This look is classic Gigi with a few subtle tweaks that take it to party-ready territory. First, the slicked-back hair that keeps the focus on her makeup. We love how she combines shades of peach on eyes, lips, and cheeks — keeping the effect from looking overdone by popping a glowy highlight on the inner corner and cheekbones. The finishing touch? The flutteriest fanned-out lashes ever.

Smoked Out
If you’re looking for a textbook-perfect example of the smoked-out cat eye, you’ve found it here. She turned up the drama for Maybelline New York’s 100th Anniversary, with smudged-out black shadow that tapers sharply from the tip of the wing to the middle of the lid. If you’re attempting to recreate this, note how she concentrates most of the color on the outer half of the eye to create a sense of balance.

Purple Pop
We tend to think of purple lips as vampy, but Gigi shows us how to wear them in a fun, fresh way. The trick seems to be picking a shade that’s halfway between violet and plum, then balancing it with radiant eye makeup and dewy skin. Also key? That romantic updo, with a few pieces of hair pulled out for face-framing softness.

Matte Moment
She gives the classic red lip a modern makeover thanks to the warm, tomato hue and velvety-matte finish. The rest of the look is kept fairly minimal — note the omission of eyeliner in favor of peachy lids and subtle lashes. Clean, glowing skin doesn’t hurt either when it comes to putting the focus on your pout.

Cut Crease
How cool is this floating liner? (Answer: cool enough to wear both on and off the red carpet.) The cut crease looks especially on point when it echoes the makeup surrounding your lash line, so do as Gigi does and ditch the cat flick in favor of smudgy, black pencil liner. Pair with a nude-pink lip and piece-y waves for maximum impact.

Pony Goals
She took the ponytail to new heights when she arrived to support the cause (and her family) at the Global Lyme Alliance Gala. For a power pony like this one, tease the hair for volume and gather it super high at the crown of your head. Texturizing hair spray (like this one from Ouai) will keep the style from falling flat — and face-framing wisps will offset the drama of this ‘do nicely.

Less is More
We had to throw in one tribute to her classic, off-duty aesthetic. After all, the girl is known for perfecting no-makeup makeup, so it stands to reason she might opt to keep it minimal on her birthday. Here’s the breakdown: super soft waves, a wash of nude-pink on lids and cheeks, and the barest hint of lipstick. A deep side part helps freshen things up, but the style remains casual enough to easily transition from day to night.

Glow Girl
The Gigi glow was in full force when she arrived at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after party. We’re chalking it up to a combination of good skincare, plenty of luminizer (this one’s our favorite), and the rush of completing a career-making moment. As for the minimal makeup and casual chignon? With skin this radiant, you don’t really need much else.

Trick Chop
We’ll forever remember this moment as one of the greatest hair fake-outs in history. She hit the 2015 AMAs red carpet in a dramatic bob that had us all completely fooled — until she revealed it was a convincing illusion. By pairing her face-framing layers with a half wig (attached to the back of her head), she brought us the coolest iteration of the one-night bob we’ve seen yet.

Bunhead
She brings the red lip back, but this time it’s more of a classic, scarlet hue. The sleek ponytail gets swapped out for an upswept, ballerina bun for a more laid-back effect. She keeps the makeup super clean here as well, opting for bare lids and minimal color for an effect that’s refreshingly modern.

Seeing Red
And now, we arrive at the moment when Gigi got us hooked on red eyeshadow in about five seconds flat. The burgundy lid wash is applied in a cat-eye shape, then blended out to smoky perfection. Black eyeliner helps anchor the color, while her sleek strands and nude base bring additional drama to the look.

Color Play
Gigi seems to love a good hair switch-up, like the one she pulled with BFF Kendall at the Balmain show during PFW fall '16. We have to say, she wears brunette locks well. The rich, mahogany hue is definitely worlds away from her sunny strands, but the color totally works when paired with softer, super clean makeup.

Out with a Bang
We’ll leave you with Gigi’s most recent moment of hair experimentation, which involved a bold fringe and major volume at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. We love that she amped up the makeup to match, pairing her signature peach tones with cat liner and a contrasting inner corner highlight. With a beauty lineup this good, we can’t wait to see which iconic looks she’ll dream up at 21.
