The Historic California Wildfires Captured in 8 Photos
Wildfires along the West Coast continue to rage during a fiery summer. Governors in all three Pacific coast states are warning residents of the true scope of the blazes.
“We're in an unprecedented fire event,” Oregon governor Kate Brown wrote on Twitter Tuesday. “Several significant, growing fires across the state continue to spread due to hot, dry weather & high winds. Oregonians' lives are at risk.”
California governor Gavin Newsom took to Twitter to share that 2.3 million acres have burned in 2020, so far — almost 20 times more than all the area burned in 2019. Washington’s Jay Inslee, the former 2020 presidential candidate who centered climate in his campaign, shared a similarly bleak update that more area burned in a single day than in 12 of the last 18 fire seasons.
