7 Ways To Be Your Own Valentine This Weekend

Valentine’s Day should honestly just be called Half-Off-Candy-Eve because everyone knows that the 15th of February is where it’s at — all the holiday candy is discounted everywhere, making it a veritable Halloween/Christmas hybrid. That said, the anticipation of a sugar rush doesn’t really alleviate those pressures of coupling up, as the 14th tends to conjure. So why not take that day to BYOV? Be your own Valentine. Luckily the date falls on a weekend this year so you can dedicate the entire day to a self-care pamper-fest. Need an itinerary? Look ahead.

Start the Day With Breakfast Fit for a Queen
Waffles are a good choice for obvious reasons (the syrup, the whipped cream, the strawberry/banana/other fruits!), but if you are a bacon-and-eggs girl, go forth and get yourself some bacon and eggs. Breakfast is the important meal of the day and when there is an opportunity to also make it the most delicious meal of the day (so far), going for it will set the precedent for having a really, really good day. This is also prime time to create any DIY beauty treatments from what’s in your kitchen. An avocado mayonnaise hair treatment or an egg white-and-yogurt facial are a simple way to nourish the outside of your body, too. If you’re already cooking, you may as well, right?

Get Fancy
Getting fancy may include taking the time to style your hair in your favorite way or just doing a sheet mask before your makeup routine on any old day, but since we are treating ourselves today, heading to your fave spot for a mani-pedi is requisite simple pampering. It doesn’t take too long, you feel great afterwards, and all your digits look fly for the rest of the week. - 4/8
Lunch With Your Ladies
Not enough people “do lunch.” Not only is it a nice way to break up the day, it’s also a reprieve from having a meal at your desk, in a cafeteria, standing at your kitchen counter, or while walking (plus it’s prime opportunity to flaunt that mani). Not technically a beauty treatment, but if you think about it, nourishment ties into mood-boosting wellness, no?

Take Advantage of the Couples Packages
Take the special lady in your life (your sister? Your BFF? Your mom?) for a treat today. Couples packages don’t generally indicate what you need to be a couple of, so if there’s two of you — like you and your BFF — you can reap the benefits of any spa couples package, which often promotes discounted treatments for teams of two. Hey, if you get the couples massage, you and your girl can high-five between turning over and have a selfie-sesh in a heart-shaped hot tub. - 6/8
Go See Zoolander 2
It’s out this weekend and Kristen Wiig is possibly in the greatest role of her lifetime, the soon to be iconic Alexanya Atoz. You will likely be all zen’d out from your afternoon of pampering so it wouldn’t be surprising if the rest of the day consisted of a long nap. But once you rouse, go take in a movie! We are sure this film is going to be a treasure trove of beauty tips (though perhaps not to be interpreted literally), so keep an open mind about that in between laughs. Also, we hope you had the foresight to pack your purse full of Valentine’s chocolate in lieu of popcorn. It’s tradition!

Lather Up
Normally, this is the part where I’d recommend a long bubble bath. But since you may have been doing some spa-soaking previously in the day, your fingers can only take so much pruning (unless you’re not the fancy spa type). Get thee to your bathtub stat. Since it is a Sunday night, those Monday blues will be creeping in right around sundown, so it’s a good time to ease your troubles with some suds. Sheet masks — slap those on. Hair masks — rub those in (granted you skipped those this morning; some people like doing beauty treatments at different times of the day, there’s no right or wrong!). - 8/8
Meditate Before Hopping Into Bed
Even if you’re not the Om type, after an eventful day it helps to process and settle your mind before tucking yourself into bed like you normally do — staring at the time and regretting all the things you need to do once your alarm clock rings. A little peace time, without distraction from your phone, computer, or television also lessens the stimulus to your brain, so it knows it’s time to hush, making it easier for you to fall asleep. Before you know it it’ll be Monday morning, which you can’t be too mad at because it’s also the 15th — discount-candy day!
