Six Ways to Fake Perfect Skin

Primer
"Primer helps color adhere to your skin better while also smoothing irregularities like dry spots or pimples," says makeup artist Sara Glick, who recommends using this product after your daily moisturizer. "Apply a dime-size amount with your fingers, lightly dabbing it on in upward strokes. Don’t rub it too hard—you want to create a clean, matte base for makeup."

Under-Eye Concealer
First, prep your skin with moisturizer and foundation. Next, "use your pinkie finger to put a liquid-based concealer under your eyes," says Chanel celebrity makeup artist Angela Levin. "Larger fingers have a rougher texture; your pinkie will cover smaller areas with more control."

BB Cream
Also known as blemish or beauty balms, BB creams (popularized in South Korea) boast a sheer formula, dewy finish, and lighter weight than tinted moisturizer—plus they hydrate, prime, and often protect with SPF. "Choose a shade one tone warmer than your skin to get a pretty radiance," says Charlotte Willer, global makeup artist for Maybelline New York. "Apply it all over your face as you would a cream."

Concealer
"You need separate concealers for your face and eyes," says makeup artist Troy Surratt. "Face concealers often contain drying agents to fight pimples." And invest in the right tools: "A tiny concealer brush allows you to approach a blemish from every direction," he notes. "But don’t overdo concealer or you’ll highlight the bump."

Foundation
To get all-day coverage, "blend foundation with a drop of serum [a skin-care fluid with ultraconcentrated ingredients]," advises Tom Pecheux, creative makeup director of Estée Lauder. "Put it on with fingers to warm up the formula; it’ll go on sheer." For lighter coverage, use foundation only where needed (usually around the nose and chin).
