2/26Especially the jumbo ones from Crumbs Bakery. In the fashion closet, interns order frosted and sprinkled cupcakes for everything from birthdays to intern send-offs, and sometimes simply because we need an afternoon treat!

4/26Whether it's a dress made for a shoot, fabric bought from BJ Fabrics, or a taxi cab ride to a showroom appointment, everything costs money and often interns are responsible for keeping track of editor receipts and expenses to ensure that the budget for a given shoot is not exceeded.
5/26The fashion closet goes through bos and bos of black garment bags used to keep all those cute clothing samples safe as we send them back to their respective showrooms.
6/26The hot chocolate machine on our floor provides interns with sweet drinks that warm us up after running errands on blistery New York City winter days.

Usually, one lucky little intern is asked to tag along on these shoots to offer a much needed helping hand to stylists directing the shoot. Responsibilities include dressing models, organizing outfits, taking Polaroids, and running errands.
8/26fashion assistant and official intern-wrangler who hires us, keeps us on task, and makes sure we're running errands, making copies, returning clothes, and laughing non-stop throughout the day.

Though most interns keep busy in the closet, once in a while we may stroll by model booker Lara Bonomo's office to scope out the cute boys she is photographing and scouting for upcoming shoots.
10/26The books the interns diligently print from Style.com each season that consist of all the looks that went down the runways of New York, Paris, Milan and London. Stylists use them to make inspiration boards for stories and to pinpoint exactly which pieces they want to use in upcoming shoots.
11/26Though there is always plenty of conversation and laughs on the job, the fashion closet team often needs a little pick-me-up throughout the day. We rely on Radio Paradise for a constant stream of eclectic music that keeps us pumped up. Occasionally, if James allows, we really rock it out to Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake.

13/26On any given day hundreds of pieces of clothing go in and out of the offices, which means interns must be incredibly organized. Such organization requires accounting for each piece of clothing that enters and exits the closet with invoices, filing lookbooks to their designated spots, and ensuring that all clothing stays on its designated rack. A clean fashion closet is a happy fashion closet!
14/26It's the classic intern menial task, but at it's not so bad when you are photocopying looks from Miu Miu, Marni, and Marc Jacobs.

16/26About 20 rolling garment racks line the office hallways on an average week and are each labeled with the name of the story for which the clothes will be used. Interns are responsible for rolling them in and out of the closet each night and morning and keeping them organized and merchandised.
17/26Many designers do not have their own public relations department, so they depend on the talents of PR firms that have showrooms full of designer brands from which we pull clothing. constantly visits such showrooms as KCD, Simon, Denise Williamson, Keri Levitt, and Blackframe for fresh new designers as well as established, well-known brands.
18/26We pack them full of clothes and accessories and they travel across the world, from Los Angeles to India to Russia to Palm Beach for use on all of 's fashion shoots.

It's essential to be up-to-date on retail, manufacturing, designing, beauty, accessories, media stories, and the fashion world at large. Who knows, for many talented interns, maybe someday they'll read their own name in the daily publication!
21/26When there is always the chance of walking into the ) favorite shops in New York include Hooky, Family Jewels, Zachary's Smile, and What Comes Around Goes Around. But you can also head to a flea market, garage sale, or even your grandmother's closet—where I found my favorite vintage locket.
22/26Along with glue sticks, scissors, binder clips, wax machines, sharpies, and double-stick tape, they are just one of the items in the deluge of office supply materials interns rely on daily to make inspiration boards, trend books, and lookbooks. With all the cutting and pasting it sometimes feels like kindergarten, but, of course, cutting out paper dolls dressed in Jill Stuart is actually fun.

24/26Well, let's be real. It's a little hard to think of a intern-related word that starts with Z. How about zippers? Maybe I should express my love for spring's fun anorak coats in bright colors or the gorgeous skirts and dresses with plenty of those shiny exposed closures.
25/26The fashion closet has three new members, not interns, but goldfish! We have a fish tank full of bright fish that entertain us, along with the rest of the staff, when clothing returns are slow.
