Is This the Easiest Glitter Eyeshadow Ever Invented?
I have a confession to make: I am bad at eyeshadow. I have never been good at it. I will likely never be good at it.
There is no cat eye I can master, no cut-crease I have been able to pull off. I have tried, and bought all the palettes, eyeliners and glitters. (I have also bought my share of makeup remover, hoping to erase every trace of my disastrous attempts at eye makeup before leaving the house.) This all changes when the holiday season rolls around. I am in my element, because it means I can get away with a red lip and lots of eyelashes, and it looks like, well, a look. I had resigned myself to never mastering eye makeup... until I met a line of shimmering pots from Marc Jacobs Beauty.
They're called the See-quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow, and come in colors ranging from Frozen white to Grinch-heart black. All of them are mega-sparkly, and have a consistency that falls somewhere between a cream shadow and the looser glitters you'll find in Huda Beauty's New Nude palette. If you hate using glitter glue to adhere glitter — and if you dread a sparkly look because you'll find remnants of the stuff weeks later in places you didn't even know glitter could end up — these no-mess pots are for you.
One swipe with my finger resulted in a look that was easily adjustable; you can dial the level of pigment up or down quickly, or use the gels to complement your powder shadow (if you're more accomplished at eye makeup than I am). The application is also pretty fool-proof, as there's no need to fret over which brush to use. (If you don't want to get your hands dirty, a brush with tightly-packed bristles will do the trick; I like Fenty Beauty's dual-ended eyeshadow brush).
These pots also were a hit with friends who are better at makeup than I am (though that isn't too hard a feat). When I asked one friend why she liked the shadows, she texted back in record time: "applies like a shadow, is multidimensional so it looks like you made more effort than lazily swiping one finger across your eye, and has the editorial finish of a gloss," she wrote. Basically it's "a smokey eye in a pot." As someone who has watched countless tutorials and still can't get a smoked-out gaze right, that's the only endorsement I need.
