Jason Wu Gave Us the Scoop About His Brand-New (and Totally Breathtaking) Lancôme Collection
We love Jason Wu for his gorgeous clothing, which has done a bit of growing up over the past couple of seasons. Most know him for his classically feminine tailoring and florals, but lately, he's streamlined his approach. Spring, for instance, was a sea of metallics and clean, nearly geometric silhouettes. Fall further developed his penchant for sophisticated dressing, but jewel tones, cut outs, and lu velvety textures showed that he still knows exactly what a girl wants.
That innate sensibility is what makes the designer's second Lancôme collection, out today, so exciting—the colors are smart and wearable but they push the boundaries enough for any true makeup lover. Wu posits that dressing the body is similar to dressing the face: Much like his eveningwear adroitly balances silk and cashmere or velvet and embellishment, so too do his eye palettes—rich hints of metallic with sheerer, shimmery pops of color. And as for those peekaboo cutouts on that killer, slinky purple gown? We'll interpret that as a sculpted cheekbone with a vibrant lipstick.
"Beauty has always been extremely important to my label and I've made it an integral part of many of my shows," Wu tells Teen Vogue. "This collaboration is an organic progression and it's an absolutely essential part of what I do."

"Pink is one of my favorite colors that I've used consistently in my collections," Wu says. "One of my earliest memories of the color was my mother's YSL lipstick that she used to wear all the time!"

"The makeup is really inspired by colors from my pre-fall and fall collections, so dark and romantic jewel tones just felt like the right thing. I always prefer a dramatic beauty look—a great way to add depth to shimmering eyeshadows and deep rosy-pink shades is with a dark liner and mascara for contrast," Wu notes. "I like the transformative aspect of combining the right beauty look with an ensemble," Wu muses. Dress your eyes up with his Disco palette, a mélange of blendable greens paired with a modern metallic accent for the center of the lid.

And what about the girl who's not quite ready for pre-fall's moody hues? "For summer, I love the idea of a light-as-air, ruffled chiffon dress like the ones I showed in my resort collection," he says. And the present season's on-trend look? "A great lip with dewy skin." Get the perfect, barely-there eye by dusting your lids with a light veil of these champagne and rose gold shades, then smudge the chocolate liner into the outer corners.
