Jenna Ushkowitz Tells Us All About Designing Her New Wall Flower Jeans Line
- 1/4
Can you tell us what the perfect back-to-school outfit is?
I don't know if there is a perfect one! It varies for every individual — whatever they feel good in. For me, it's a great pair of jeans you can wear all the time and a really cute, comfy shirt that you can either dress up or dress down. Comfort is key.
Do you have a particularly memorable back-to-school outfit from when you were a teenager?
I went to Catholic school, so I wore a uniform. I didn't really get to express myself through my clothing! It's fun to go back now and pick out things I would've worn. We just had so many no-nos at my school — no big bell bottoms, no patches on jeans.

Not only has Jenna Ushkowitz been named the spokesperson for Wall Flower Jeans, she's also scored a job designing a line for the label. Her first collection — which drops Aug. 25 — is filled with back-to-school must-haves. You can expect sequined tanks and tudo jackets, and, of course, jeans. We chatted with the Glee star to get the lowdown on Jenna's designs, her personal style, and what's next for Tina Cohen-Chang.
Why did you team up with Wall Flower?
Wall Flower asked me be their spokesperson for the year. I love their jeans because they have so many different cuts for everybody. The relationship ended up being really great, so we decided we would do an Ushkowitz collection as well.
What's the inspiration behind the line?
I like to be able to wear things again and again and not have them get old. I picked these really cool outfits — a little jacket, a plaid shirt you could wear with jeans or shorts or a skirt. Wall Flower also picked out some outfits inspired by my personal style.

What is in your handbag right now?
Oh my goodness, basically everything! I have lipstick, a Mason Pearson brush, my new sunglasses from Marc Jacobs, my C. Wonder wallet in neon highlighter yellow, my phone, my keys, my Beats by Dre headphones, and Neosporin.
What's your current beauty obsession?
There's this Koh Gen Doh product called Gomage. It takes all the dead skin off your face. I use it every morning, and then I use a hot towel. I'm obsessed with Dior lipsticks because they look like lip gloss, but they're not. I also love the thing that everyone is doing with their nail polish, where one finger on a hand is a different color.
And as we gear up for a new season of Glee, do you know what's next for your character?
I have no idea! As far as I know from last season, Tina is definitely going to be a frontrunner in the club because Rachel, Mercedes, and Santana have graduated. She's one of the vets right now, and she has to teach the newbies how it works.

Jenna Ushkowitz Tells Us All About Designing Her New Wall Flower Jeans Line How would you compare your personal style with Tina's style on Glee?
Tina's style has evolved, and my style has obviously evolved since high school. Tina's style was really gothic. She had a lot of accessories. She always wore gloves or fishnets, something ripped with a belt. Then she went into an almost retro look, with colorful, cute dresses. That's more my style, the now Tina. I love simple looks, like a white t-shirt with a leather jacket and jeans. I like anything that's comfortable that I can wear with a pair of flats, and then I can just put heels on and go out to dinner in.
We see you on the red carpet quite often. Have you ever had any kind of wardrobe mishap?
I wore one outfit once, and I didn't realize how cut on the side it was. You never want to show side-boob! I did, and it was not attractive. Before you go out, definitely check that all your sides are covered!
