DIY Jeweled Ribbon Headband
1/16Secure the ribbon
Start off by looping one end of the floral ribbon around the end of the headband. You want about a half inch of extra looped ribbon extending past the end of the headband.
2/16what you need
A plain wire frame headband (look for one without teeth on the underside)
1 1/2 yard of floral printed ribbon, roughly half an inch thick
3" of slightly wider ribbon in a complimentary color and pattern
Large rhinestones or any gems you like
Hot glue gun
Needle
Thread
Two small binder clips
3/16Clip the ribbon
Secure the ribbon to the headband using the binder clip.
4/16Wrap the headband
Wrap the ribbon around the headband, pulling it tight as you go. If you start to get any gaps between the ribbon and the headband, just pull the ribbon taut.
5/16Glue the ribbon
Plug in the hot glue gun (under a parent's supervision!) and allow it to heat up. Once the glue gun is hot, place a small bead of glue on the inside of the headband right by the end of the band. If your headband looks like ours, the glue will go on the flat plane of the headband. Before the glue is cool, fold the excess ribbon over the glue dot, and secure it with a binder clip. This process will create a covered end of the headband and will keep the ribbon in place.
6/16Clip the other end of the ribbon
Once the ribbon is wrapped all the way around the headband, clip the ribbon leaving roughly one inch of extra ribbon on the end.
7/16Begin making a ruffle
Thread your needle, and put the needle through the ribbon about a quarter of an inch from the edge. Put the needle through the ribbon in small running stitches. The stitches should end about a quarter of the inch from the opposite side of the ribbon.
8/16Remove the clip
Allow the glue to cool before removing the binder clip.
9/16Cut a piece of the additional ribbon
Next, cut off 3" of the other ribbon. Be sure to cut on a diagonal slant so that the ribbon won't fray.
10/16Glue the other end of the ribbon
Repeat step six on the other end of the headband to secure the ribbon.
11/16Finish the ruffle
Pull the needle and thread through the ribbon, allowing the knot to catch on one end. Pull the thread tight through the ribbon, scrunching the ribbon down the length of the thread slightly. Cut the thread and secure the ruffle by tying a small knot in the thread. Ta-da! You have a ruffle! You can adjust just how scrunchy and frilly you want the ruffle. If you want it really scrunchy, work with a longer piece of ribbon.
12/16Apply glue to the headband
Using the hot glue gun, place a small bead of glue on the top side of the headband, slightly off center.
13/16Glue the bow to the headband
Lay the center of your ruffle over the bead of glue and press down slightly to secure. Be careful not to burn your finger on the hot glue!
14/16Add the other jewels
Attach the other gems on either side, and allow it to cool. Unplug your hot glue gun, and make sure it is cool before you store it.
15/16Secure the ruffle and add a jewel
Once the ruffle is secure on the side of the headband, use the hot glue gun to place a small bead of glue in the center of the ruffle. Then, place one of your gems on top of the glue to secure it in place.
