DIY A Jeweled Satin Bracelet
1/18What You Need
One pair of plastic cat-eye sunglasses that flatter your face
One yard of 1 1/2" wide satin ribbon in your favorite color
Three large rhinestones in a complimentary color. The stones should be about the same length as the width of your ribbon. They should have small holes around the base that you can use to sew them on
1/2 yard of wide tulle ribbon in a complimentary color
Sequins in two complimentary colors
Fabric glue
A Ruler
Scissors
Needle
Thread
2/18Measure the Ribbon
Measure out two feet of the satin ribbon. Save the rest for additional bracelets!
3/18Cut the Ribbon
Cut the ribbon on the diagonal. This will keep it from fraying.
4/18Cut the Tulle
When you've measured out roughly how much tulle ribbon you'll need, cut the ribbon.
5/18Design Your Tulle
Lay out the tulle ribbon. Place your rhinestones on it side by side to measure out how much of it you will need. Be sure to leave about a half inch of space on either side of the rhinestones.
6/18Find the Halfway Point
Fold the ribbon in half, and make a small pencil mark at the halfway point.
7/18Glue The Rhinestone
Place a small dot of the fabric glue on the back of one of the stones and lay it on the tulle and satin ribbons.
8/18Design Your Bracelet
Using the halfway mark as a guide, lay down the tulle piece over the center of the ribbon, then place the middle rhinestone directly over the center mark. Lay the other two stones side by side, and step back and make any adjustments you need to get the stones and tulle settled.
9/18Secure the Rhinestones
Press the rhinestone down firmly, and glue down the rest of the stones. Let the glue dry for at least an hour.
Once the glue has set, thread a needle, tie off the thread, and stick the needle from the back of the ribbon to the front, placing the point near one of the holes to sew the stones on. Sew all three stones on. Sewing the stones isn't a necessity, it will just hold the bracelet together better.
10/18Prepare the Sequins
Lay out your sequins in two piles. Sewing sequins can be tricky, so you have to be sure to always put the needle through the cup side of the sequin. In other words, if you think of the sequin as a bowl, when you put it on the needle, the empty side of the bowl should face you, and the round part of the bowl faces the pointy side of the needle.
11/18Sew the Sequins
Thread your needle and tie off the thread again. Put the needle through the bracelet, directly next to one of the outer stones, going from the back side of the bracelet towards the front.
Slide the sequin down the length of the thread and lay it flat against the ribbon. Take the needle and put it back through the ribbon directly in front of the first sequin, creating a line along the side of the stone.
12/18Create a Line of Sequins
Repeat sewing sequins until the first line is complete
13/18Sew Second Line of Sequins
Create a second row of sequins next to the row you just finished with the second sequin color.
14/18Secure the Sequins
When you've finished that row, tie off the thread, and start in on the other side.
15/18Repeat on Other Side
Replicate the two rows of sequins on the other side of the stone.
16/18Secure Your Work
When you've finished the second two rows, tie off the thread.
17/18Tie a Bow
Tie the bracelet around your wrist – of your best friend's – finishing it off with a pretty bow.
