Mackenzie Ziegler Gets Ready for the 2016 Teen Choice Awards
When most 12-year-olds get dressed up for formal occasions, they're headed to a school dance, a wedding or even a church service. When Mackenzie Ziegler (of Dance Moms fame) preps for a fancy night out, she's headed to the 2016 Teen Choice Awards. The Polo Ralph Lauren model, who admittedly has a "sporty" sense of style, never passes up the chance to embrace more feminine attire. In fact, it was the pink color of her Rochelle Carino dress that initially caught her eye. The decidedly "age-appropriate" frock boasts gorgeous brocade detailing on the fabric and a comfortable fit-and-flare silhouette, one of Mackenzie's go-to styles on the red carpet. Her style philosophy? "Just be yourself. The only person you need to impress is you." We couldn't agree more. We talked style secrets, Fall trends, first-day-of-school outfits and more with Mackenzie as she prepped for the Teen Choice Awards. Nathaniel Wood1/13When Mackenzie's choosing outfits for the red carpet, she "always make sure it's age appropriate." She continues: "Each event has different themes and an attire, so I base my outfit choice by that."
Nathaniel Wood2/13Mackenzie is the first to admit she prefers sporty clothes when she's not hitting the red carpet. But "I love to dress up on event days," she tells us.
Nathaniel Wood3/13The model wanted to go for a girly vibe at the Teen Choice Awards so she "really wanted a cute pink dress," Mackenzie explains.

Nathaniel Wood5/13Mackenzie loves working with stylist, Linda Medvene, she says, because "she always gets what I like." Linda echoes her sentiments. "'Kenzie had a big part in the design process, as she has great taste," shares Linda.
Nathaniel Wood6/13In her styling kit, Linda always keeps "double sided tape, gum, mints, Wet Ones, Shout wipes, safety pins, and a lint roller" for fashion emergencies.
Nathaniel Wood7/13Mackenzie's excited for Fall trends including "winter coats and cozy clothes." When it comes to planning that first-day-of-school outfit, 'Kenzie says "just be yourself. The only person you need to impress is you." We couldn't agree more.

Nathaniel Wood9/13For Mackenzie's makeup, Tonya Brewer "was inspired by her dress and wanted to keep her look young and fresh." She used "Armani luminous silk foundation and mascara, Anastasia Beverly Hills eye shadow and Josie Maran lip stain."
One expert tip for recreating this look at home? "When applying foundation, use a damp sponge," Tonya says. "Your foundation will look natural and flawless."
Nathaniel Wood10/13Rochelle Carino (pictured) designed Mackenzie's custom dress. The Dance Moms star fell in love with "the style and the color of the dress," she says.
Nathaniel Wood11/13Hairstylist Tonya Brewer chose a look Mackenzie doesn't wear often. "Mackenzie doesn't usually wear her hair completely down and she has the best hair," Tonya says. "So, I wanted to do something different yet simple."
She used "a wand curling iron and Oribe texture spray to add lots of texture," Tonya shares. "To hold the look in place I finished with Oribe superfine hair spray."
Nathaniel Wood12/13To recreate Mackenzie's hairstyle at home, "leave out the ends when curling the hair to create more of a beachy wave," Tonya says. She swears by Oribe hair products. "Their texture spray is a must!"
