We have pretty high hopes for this year’s Met Gala. With a documentary about the 2015 record-breaking exhibit and fundraising event, The First Monday in May currently in theaters, and E!’s “Live from the Red Carpet” covering the arrivals for the first time, plenty of eyeballs will be glued to see every celebrity, model, and designer trek up the red-carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of New York.
Following this year’s exhibition theme, "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” (think haute couture meets sci-fi), guests are encouraged to don “tech white tie”. Even better? Taylor Swift, Idris Elba and Apple’s Chief Design Officer, Jonathan Ive, will serve as co-chairs. Click through the slideshow to see everything you need to know about fashion’s biggest night!

The Exhibition
According to the Met, the exhibition features more than 100 pieces of fashion, both haute couture and ready-to-wear. Several handmade couture items, featuring techniques such as embroidery, pleating, and lacework, are juxtaposed with machine-made designs showcasing new technologies like laser cutting, thermo shaping, and circular knitting.

Futuristic Red Carpet Fashion
The exhibit’s high-tech theme could inspire some creative and unexpected red carpet looks. Will Lady Gaga come dressed as an Apple motherboard? Could Kendall Jenner do a Judy Jetson riff? We’re in store for many surprises!

Decoding “Tech White Tie”
If you’re trying to wrap your head around what exactly is “tech white tie,” know that white tie is the most formal dress code (even dressier than black tie!) and attendees will most likely interpret the “tech” part by choosing futuristic designs to rock the casbah all night.

What Will Taylor Wear?
Since Taylor Swift is one of the co-chairs, we’re bound to see her wear something extravagant. Could the newly bleached blonde continue her edgy and vamped up streak in a one of a kind Saint Laurent gown?

Gigi and Zayn Might Go Public
Could Gigi and Zayn walk the red carpet together? They made their relationship Vogue-official by posing in the magazine’s May issue, but aside from paparazzi shots and selfies on social media, the couple hasn’t made a red carpet appearance yet.

Tech Takes Center Stage
Considering the fashion industry’s growing obsession with technology, we’re expecting it to be a big focus of the evening. Maybe the exhibition will incorporate Oculus Rift headsets? At the very least, we can expect loads of LED light selfie iPhone cases.

Will Beyoncé Perform?
Queen Bey hasn’t missed a Met Gala yet, and we’re sure she won’t miss this one. But could she perform a few songs from Lemonade at this year’s event? Rihanna, Kanye West, and Justin Bieber have all performed, so we wouldn’t count it out.
