The first Monday in May can only mean one thing: Met Gala night — which, of course, can only mean that the first Tuesday in May shall be reserved for discussing fashion's biggest night. The Met Gala 2023 red carpet was in full swing last night, and while we try to come up with a Met Gala 2023 best-dressed list, we ask ourselves this morning: Did people deliver?
To honor this year's theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, Met Gala attendees were asked to “dress in honor of Karl” — though arguably his cat Choupette was honored just as much as him. The theme truly harbored no shortage of inspiration, but were the looks good? Self-confessed fashion critics, this one's for you.
The Met Gala is the main night of the year for couch-based spectators to critique red carpet looks and create some memes in the process. Not everything in life is subjective, but fashion certainly is, so why not have some fun when it comes to best dressed? Doja doesn't ever disappoint. For her Met Gala debut, she was "calm" yet fierce and feline, arriving as a high-fashion form of Choupette, Karl's beloved cat. Wearing a long sparkly Oscar De La Renta, she was purrrfect.

Rihanna knows how to show up to the Met Gala extra fashionably late. This year, Rihanna and A$AP shone bright like diamonds on the red carpet as the most iconic duo in Valentino and Gucci, respectively. Rihanna made her way up the steps in her immaculate white Valentino bridal dress adorned with camellia flowers and a five-foot train. "It's Valentino, baby," she said to the cameras. Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky wore a complete Gucci outfit featuring a kilt inspired by Karl himself, which fell short in comparison, but it was on theme.
