Alanna Arrington is a supermodel in the making. In her first year on the job, she took the industry by storm, covering magazines and closing fashion shows — all before her high school graduation. Growing up in Iowa, Alanna realized she wanted to be a model at the age of 14, and went to a local casting call that changed her life. Now, the 17-year-old has model gigs under her belt that hopefuls only dream of. Whether it’s her amazing curly hair, her show-stopping looks or her free-spirited personality, the fashion world just can’t get enough of Alanna. Ahead, she models the oversize trend and walks us through her meteoric rise to fame. Bonus: she gives us supermodel posing tips for Instagram, too.
Photographed by Daniel Jackson1/9Alanna’s foray into modeling wasn't a case of serendipity: she entered the fashion industry with purpose. “I was scouted at an open call my mother agency had in my hometown," she recalls. "But that day a friend [and I] went to the open call. I was 14 at the time — super shy, freshly waxed eyebrows and all.”

Photographed by Daniel Jackson2/9During her first-ever fashion week, Alanna opened and closed several major shows, a rite of passage typically reserved for more seasoned models. She says of that moment, “Closing my very first show of my very first season was unbelievable to say the least. I still get butterflies and goosebumps thinking back to it. Opening a show was even more surreal. I'm pretty sure I blacked out the whole time I was on the runway. The nerves got to me.” Even her team couldn’t hold back their excitement. “The best part about it was how happy my team of agents was for me," Alanna says. "Running backstage after those moments to a group of hugs and happy tears makes it even more memorable.”

Photographed by Daniel Jackson3/9“Handling all of the attention has taken some getting used to,” Alanna says about the thousands of followers and fans she’s gained. “It's crazy having so many people follow what I do and recognize my hard work. It makes what I do so much better." Alanna isn't letting the newfound attention go to her head. "Staying grounded is the easiest part," she muses. "I was raised to always appreciate everything given to me and to never let my ego get too big. I also make sure I stay constantly surrounded by people that keep me very level-headed and humble.”

Photographed by Daniel Jackson4/9Alanna's hair is the talk of Instagram, so we were surprised to learn her regimen is pretty low maintenance. “My hair honestly doesn't take much to keep it looking good. I live and breathe by Deva Curl products. I use the shampoo, conditioner, and light styling gel every time I do my hair. They works wonders on curls. The tips I've heard on set that really do work for my curls are to not wash my hair everyday, and use a deep moisturizing mask for my hair once a week."

Photographed by Daniel Jackson5/9When Alanna's not busy pursuing an illustrious modeling career, she's exploring other interests...like science! “I think fans would be surprised to know that I'm actually a huge nerd. That's the one thing I don't talk about much, but I really like learning.” She continues, “I'm huge into science especially astronomy, biology, and recently meteorology. It's very fascinating to learn so much about the way the world works.”

Photographed by Daniel Jackson6/9“In the next year, I'm really looking forward to growing as a person. I really want to work on stepping out of my comfort zone and grow as a model in this next year. It's important to me to always continue to get better at what I do,” she says.

Photographed by Daniel Jackson7/9With over 15K followers on Instagram, Alanna fits right in with today's crop of social media models. “It's my way of giving everyone a little insight to my life," she explains. "I'm always 100% true to myself on social media. My Instagram is a bit goofy because that's just who I am. My Snapchat and Twitter are where I really like to express myself. I want the people who follow me to know who I am. I never want to come off as a fraud or someone I'm really not."
If you're looking to hit a model-worthy pose on Instagram, Alanna advises "always try to express your personality through a picture, whether it be a smile, a quirky face, or simply looking as fierce as possible!”

Staying true to who you are will make people fall in love with you and it will keep you happy!” Wise words from a star-in-the-making.
