9 Movies Hollywood Should Remake With Female Leads
The all-female reboot of Ghostbusters is finally here, we can barely contain our excitement. The original ghost-hunting flick came out all the way back in 1984, and people have been obsessed with it ever since. And while the star-studded and seriously funny new cast has some critics crying out that it can’t possibly be as good as the original, here at Teen Vogue, we’re of the belief that anything men can do, women can do equally well…and better.
In that spirit, what would other classic movies would be like if they starred female leads instead of male ones? It's no secret that Hollywood has had a sexism problem for a while, and while some things are getting better, we figured we'd help the casting agents of the world along just a little bit. Read on to find out what movies we believe need a female reboot A.S.A.P. and start thinking about who you gonna call to help make it happen.

Dead Poets Society
Released in 1989, Dead Poets society is still an enduring look at coming of age — something teens of all genders experience, so why not reinterpret it for a whole new audience? Imagine if instead of Robin Williams's John Keating passionately quoting Whitman to an all boys’ classroom, we could watch a singular teacher inspiring an all-girls English class? The message would be powerful: women are not in school to impress boys, but to improve their own minds and follow their dreams.

Superbad
Superbad would be perfect for a female reboot — and the upcoming Dope, which stars Lucy Hale and Alexandra Shipp, is going to be something like that, but come on, we need a new McLovin'! Sure, some of the crude jokes would need to be tweaked, but ladies love good potty humor just as much as the next dude.

Where the Wild Things Are
Raise your hand if you identified with Max when you were little. That's right — the mischievous kid resonated with wild things everywhere, regardless of gender. That’s why it would be incredible to see Where the Wild Things Are recast with a female lead. The main character could still be called Max, too.

Boyhood
Boyhood took 12 years to film, as it actually followed Ellar Coltrane through his growth into a young man. Although it would be tough to dedicate the same amount of time to a remake, how badass would it be to observe a young woman as she navigates adolescence and discovers her sense of self?

Harry Potter
Though we're still holding out for a story told from Hermione's point of view, the Boy Who Lived could have just as easily been the Girl Who Lived. Witches play a crucial role in the Harry Potter books as it is, but to see the wizarding world from Hermione, Ginny, or even Professor McGonagall's point of view would be truly magical.

Fight Club
We know the first rule is that we're not supposed to talk about Fight Club, but bear with us here. This cult classic is untouchable in the eyes of many. The popularity of Brad Pitt and Edward Norton put this film on the radar of the masses, but we think it would be just as successful with an all-girls reboot.

James Bond
The internet keeps calling out for a female James Bond and we totally agree. There have also been a lot of actresses who have thrown their name into the ring: everyone from Shay Mitchell to Kristen Stewart has talked about the possibility of playing 007. A bonus of a female reimagining? There would likely be a lot less womanizing going on (which is a great thing). Let’s make it happen, people! Can we get a Kickstarter rolling on this?

Batman
Rarely do women get to play superheroes. In fact, they’re often cast solely as love interests, sexy villains, or sidekicks in big name action movies. The Dark Knight is arguably one of the best Batman movies to date. But how would the movie change if it starred women as the bat-loving protagonist and the demented Joker? We're not talking about a Batgirl movie (but give us that, too, please!) No, we want to see a woman as the caped crusader. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out.

Ocean’s Eleven
Just as Ghostbusters features an awesome ensemble cast, Ocean’s Eleven rebooted with actresses would dominate theaters — and the best part is? It's already happening. The 2001 film (which was also a remake of the original 1960 classic) featured some of the hottest stars in Hollywood at the time, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon to name a few. Now audiences will get to watch Sandra Bullock and a squad of cunning women robbed banks and avoided getting caught instead? We’re predicting it would kind of resemble the "Bad Blood" music video, with more actual spy gear and less T-Swift music (though we'll never say no to that). If we can green light this, Hollywood, we can make the rest happen. Are you listening?
