You and your sister have a love-hate relationship. On the one hand, she does thoughtful things for you all the time — like when she celebrated with you when you were admitted into the college of your choice and sent you flowers when you went through a terrible breakup. On the other, she still steals your clothes and regularly calls to tell you that she’s your parents’ “favorite.” All sisterly antics aside, you treasure the days that you get to snuggle up on the couch with your sis and indulge in your favorite flicks — you just wouldn’t want her to know that. The two of you have a lot of catching up to do, and what better way to bond than by watching all your favorite flicks? Grab one of these awesome movies, reserve a spot on your family’s couch, and stock up on your favorite snacks

Sisters
When Tina Fey and Amy Poehler left Saturday Night Live, you were convinced you’d never laugh so hard that you shot ketchup out of your nose again. You took to mimicking the Bush twins’ “secret language” from the show with your sister and sent weekly frown-face emojis to properly air your grievances. Alas! The time for cinematic redemption has come. Your two fave comedians hit the silver screen to play sisters once more. Sisters stars Fey and Poehler as two sisters who are complete opposites, but come together to throw one last killer party before their parents sell their childhood home. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll be stoked (for once) that you’re not an only child.

Little Miss Sunshine
Abigail Breslin isn’t so little anymore, but back in 2006, she danced her way into your heart. This comedic drama is just the ticket to take your girls’ night from humdrum to hilarious. Not only does Little Miss Sunshine feature an adorkable 10-year-old Breslin, but it delivers some heartwarming and humorous messages about family that are sure to resonate with you and your sis.

Breakfast at Tiffany's
Your ideal sisterly bonding day includes applying face masks and painting your nails. The two of you have been known to get a bit girly every now and then, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Indulge in one of your favorite classics, Breakfast at Tiffany’s as you pamper yourselves — or queue up your favorite Hepburn movies for an Audrey-filled extravaganza (I’d recommend Roman Holiday and My Fair Lady). Watching Audrey onscreen is a surefire cure for all that ails you, including illness, sadness, and especially the mean reds.

Any Harry Potter film
Accio sister! Accio sweatpants! Whew, you put that summoning charm to good use. The best cure for sisters looking to spend quality time together? A Harry Potter movie marathon. The two of you couldn’t decide on which film from the series to watch (you favor Goblet of Fire, while your sister prefers The Half-Blood Prince — what a Slytherin inclination) so what better way to compromise than by watching all eight movies? Sure, this may be more time intensive than your standard movie viewing, but the two of you are big enough Potterheads that you’re willing to throw in some extra hours for the greater magical good. And even though no one in your family ever received their letter to Hogwarts, you two can still pretend you attended the bewitching boarding school for the day.

Up
Your sister has been your constant companion for all things risky, and you both try to live by the motto “Adventure is out there!” As kids, the two of you were always trying to shake things up in your Brownies troop and had the scrapes and bruises to prove it (much to your parents’ chagrin). Relive your golden days and tune into one of your favorite Pixar flicks to channel your inner adventurers. You might not get to tie knots and make lanyards with your sis anymore, but the two of you can still enjoy a cartoon movie together. Up isn’t about family per se, but it is about finding where you belong, and who you belong with. Luckily you already know one thing: Your sister is the person who will be by your side for all of life’s adventures.

The Virgin Suicides
Granted, this might not be the most uplifting movie, but it will have you and your favorite plus one entranced. Sofia Coppola cast a spell over audiences with the release of The Virgin Suicides in 2000. Based on the novel of the same name, the fictional story recounts the mysterious events that surrounded the deaths of the five Lisbon sisters in 1970s Michigan. Narrated by a neighborhood boy who was fascinated with the girls, the plot begins with the youngest Lisbon sister killing herself. After her suicide sends the family into reclusion, the rest of the girls become disenchanted with life as they knew it. Dreamy visuals, a soundtrack by Air, and a young Kirsten Dunst make this movie a must.

Juno
You and your sister still listen to the Juno soundtrack on the regular and always text each other “You’re the cheese to my macaroni.” Juno may be the quintessential film to put you in a good mood (and make you feel uncomfortable about Jason Bateman). It offers Michael Cera in his peak awkward phase, amazing one-liners that have stood the test of time, and a lovable protagonist who’s just trying to live it right. Juno is all about a girl making her own path, and not caring what others say about it. Snuggle up with your sis and try not to get misty eyed when Paulie asks, “Whose idea was it?”

Frozen
This sister-centric story came out in 2013 but you and your partner in crime always return back to it, because some movies are worth melting for. Get geared up for this Disney-filled day by braiding your hair à la Elsa and Anna. If you decide to make watching Frozen a sisterly tradition, you’ll have to add Frozen 2 to the queue in 2018. 2018 sounds like a long time from now, but it’s realistically how long you’ll need to perfect hitting the high notes in “Let it Go.”

Thelma and Louise
Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon shocked audiences in 1991 with the release of Thelma and Louise. What was advertised as a lighthearted story about a couple of gals taking a road trip, turned out to be a much bolder statement about domestic violence, sexuality, and even murder. If you don’t know what happens at the end of the film, I won’t let any spoilers loose — but you have probably been living under a rock. What I can tell you is that Thelma and Louise should be considered a go-to sister flick for ladies who are looking to connect with their inner badass. Noteworthy: 28-year-old Brad Pitt got his first taste of fame from his role in this movie — the man certainly knows how to rock a cowboy hat.

10 Things I Hate About You
Kick it old school by spending the evening watching 10 Things I Hate About You. Based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, the story centers around two sisters, Kat and Bianca. Bianca, the younger of the two, isn’t allowed to date until her sister does. But Kat’s got more on her mind than boys, like, you know, college and her future — duh. When a boy at school, Cameron, becomes interested in Bianca, she challenges him to find someone to date her sister. Cameron pays off resident bad boy, Patrick (played by the late great Heath Ledger), with cold hard cash to woo Kat. It works for a while, but when Kat finds out about the boys’ trickery, she is anything but pleased. An epic '90s soundtrack, Julia Stiles, and Shakespearean subplots make this movie a must for any sisterly bonding.

Sex and the City
OK, adding this one to the list almost seems too cliché, but it’s actually really good! If you and your sister reference Sex and the City episodes like Samantha Jones references sexual favors, then you owe it to yourselves to pop this one into ye olde DVD player. Experience extreme shoe envy and a wave of feels as your favorite gal pals navigate heartache, joy, and friendship. Even though Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha weren’t related, their friendships proved that not all sisters are genetically linked.
You will never regret choosing kindness. Be nicer to people, including yourself. What’s your go-to karaoke song?
