How To Make A Pom-Pom Beret
1/16Draw Circles On Cardboard
Draw a circle that's about 5 inches across on the cardboard. Draw a smaller circle in the center.
2/16What You Need
-Wool beret
-Marker
-Scissors
-Two small pieces of cardboard
-Small balls of colored yarn
-Yarn needle
3/16Cut Circles To Create Ring
Cut the large circle out of the piece of cardboard, and then cut out the center circle creating a ring shape.
4/16Trace And Cut Another Ring
Trace the ring shape onto the second piece of cardboard and cut it out, so you have two identical pieces.
5/16Stack Rings
Stack the two rings on top of one another.
6/16Wrap Second Yarn Color
Once you wrap all around the cardboard rings with the first color, cut the yarn and begin with another color. Wrap over the cut ends so they don't unravel, and keep wrapping all the way around the rings.
7/16Wrap Yarn Around Ring
Cut a length of the first color of yarn, and wrap the end around the rings. Wrap the yarn a few more times, covering the end so it does not come loose. Keep wrapping until you cover all the way around the cardboard rings.
8/16Repeat With All Colors
Repeat with all your colors, adding layers until the hole in the center of the rings is too small to continue.
9/16Cut Piece Of Yarn
Prepare to form the pom-pom by cutting a piece of yarn about a foot long. Keep this piece handy for the next step.
10/16Cut Yarn Ring
Hold the yarn wrapped ring tightly with one hand. Carefully cut the yarn along the outer edge, pointing the bottom of your scissors between the two cardboard rings as your guide. Continue to cut all the way around while securely holding the wraps in place.
11/16Separate Cardboard Rings
Separate the cardboard rings to reveal the pom-pom!
12/16Tie Yarn Around Center
Set the ring on its side, and tie the cut piece of yarn very tightly around the center, between the two pieces of cardboard.
13/16Fluff And Trim Pom-Pom
Fluff the pom-pom, and trim any long pieces of yarn so that they are even. Don't trim the long tie pieces.
14/16Attach Pom-Pom To Hat
Thread one of the long pieces of yarn through the needle. Insert the needle in the center of the beret, and leave the yarn loose inside the hat. Repeat with the other tie yarn.
15/16Tie Yarn Pieces Together
Tie the two yarn pieces together inside the beret, and trim them short.
16/16The Finished Beret
Turn the beret right side out. Viola!
