'Pretty Little Liars' Season 7 Recap: The Most Unrealistic Things that Happened
We’re not sure about the rest of you, but season 7A of Pretty Little Liars has left us feeling pretty emotionally ruined. Between all the relationship ups and downs (#Ezria! And #Jaria! And #Haleb!), that ever-so-complicated DiLaurentis (and, ahem, Hastings) family tree, and the return of several suspicious characters from seasons past, these summer episodes have created the wildest PLL rollercoaster yet. While we’re mourning the fact that we won’t have a new episode for four more months, we decided to look back on the first half of the seventh season. Here are the most out-there and downright unbelievable things that happened over the past couple months on PLL.
1/17Hanna’s kidnapping.
We’re still pretty traumatized over those scenes of poor Hanna being tortured with a cattle prod. It’s not surprising that she’s been having nightmares all season, not to mention the fact that she went full-on criminal at the end of the season for her revenge. (We'll get to that in a second.)
2/17Elliott’s death scene and burial.
Speaking of nightmares, that image of Elliott’s bloody face in the windshield of Hanna’s car has definitely been burned into our brains. And if that wasn’t crazy enough, the Liars then buried him in the middle of the woods. LOL to the fact that the Rosewood police department haven’t found that yet, and that they think Elliott is galavanting in Paris. Which brings us to….
3/17Elliott’s real name.
Our jaws definitely dropped a little when we found out that Elliott Rollins was not Elliott Rollins at all – and he wasn’t even a doctor!! His real name is Archer Dunhill, and we also learned that he was hiding a British accent this whole time. Hmm. Who else do we know on this show that’s a British doctor? (We’re gonna ride the Wren train til our deaths, sorry.)
4/17Jenna’s dramatic return to Rosewood.
It’s a tough call as to whether Jenna or Mona had a better return this season, but we can’t deny the amazingness of hearing Jenna’s cane tapping against the floor in slow motion. All that was missing was some menacing entrance music.
5/17That time Nicole called from the grave.
Nicole has been figuratively haunting Ezra since the beginning of season 6B, but when she called his phone this season, it seemed she might actually be haunting him. We thought Nicole was dead, and then we didn’t think she was dead, and then she was confirmed dead, but then she was found alive…so who called Ezra’s phone?
6/17The #Ezria proposal.
The PLL writers were teasing a proposal pretty hard this season, so we knew that one of the Liars was going to get engaged. And even though Ezra and Aria’s initial relationship was NOT okay, his whole candlelit proposal speech convinced her to say yes. Unfortunately, the subsequent wedding didn’t exactly go according to plan.
7/17Sara Harvey’s death.
If you’ve spent any time on the PLL Reddit board, you’ll know that the #PLLArmy has a special nickname for Sara. She was dubbed “Shower Harvey” during season 6A after fans noticed that she was constantly taking a shower. She literally ended almost every scene with the line, “I have to go take a shower.” Wellllll, fast forward to season 7A when Sara Harvey was found dead in the shower. Fans are convinced that the PLL writers have read the Reddit board and put that little nugget in there on purpose as a nod to the fans’ inside jokes.
8/17Mary Drake has a second child.
Poor Ali and Jason. They can’t go five minutes without discovering that they have another random family member! Halfway through season 7A, we learned that Mary Drake had two children while at Radley. The mystery child in question was adopted, and her second child was Charlotte. Mind blown!
9/17Jason and Aria’s secret romance.
There’s always been a spark between Jason and Aria — remember the time they kissed in season 2? Thanks to a series of flashbacks in 7x09, we learned that they had a hidden romance that took place during the time jump. Also, Jason has long hair now, and it is very decidedly not a bad look at all.
10/17Hanna’s revenge.
Hanna going rogue was one of the best things that happened all season. When the other Liars weren’t listening to her warnings about Noel, she decided to take matters into her own hands. We’re basically living for Hanna in a baseball cap saying, “It’s over, b*tch” to Noel.
11/17That flash drive with the dollhouse videos.
Of all the flash drives that the Liars have found, this one might have been the creepiest. The drive contained folders on each of the girls, plus Mona, and had footage of all the dirty secrets that went down in the dollhouse. Of course, someone immediately stole it from Spencer literally hours after she found it. When will they learn to make backups?!
12/17Grunwald’s visit.
Mrs. Grunwald is one of the creepiest characters that has ever existed in PLL world — and that’s saying a lot. We were all a little scared when she showed up at Hanna’s door, and then had a Stranger Things-esque nosebleed while using her psychic powers at Radley.
13/17Nicole’s big reveal.
Nicole has been declared alive and dead more times than almost anyone else on this show, and that’s saying something. That moment when Aria saw Ezra hugging her on live TV was like a knife in all of our hearts.
14/17Ali's pregnancy.
In the finale, Ali revealed that she’s pregnant. Some fans suspected this plot twist after she threw up in the bathroom stall at Rosewood High, but it still came as a big surprise. Of course, she wasn’t too happy about starting a family with her dead husband who turned out to be a psychopath with a stolen identity. Poor Ali!
15/17Everything that went down at the Elm Street house.
Jenna was wielding a gun, Noel got decapitated, and Spencer was shot – all within a five-minute time span. We don’t know if we’ve ever screamed so much in our entire lives. Which brings us to…
16/17Mary Drake and Spencer are RELATED.
Probably the biggest twist of the season came at the very end of the season 7A finale: Mary Drake is Spencer’s birth mother. This leaves a LOT of questions for Season 7B. Who is Spencer’s father? Is it Peter? Is it someone else?! Does Melissa know that Spencer is adopted? What does it all meeeaaaan?
And, the most insane thing of all:
17/17The girls actually called 911.
Of all the crazy things to have happened on this show, this one takes the cake. Definitely the most unrealistic thing to have happened in Rosewood yet.
