Emeraude Toubia Invited Us to Get Ready With Her for the Radio Disney Music Awards
As the star of Freeform's hit show Shadowhunters, going to major award shows is a regular occurrence for Emeraude Toubia. So, what made this awards show special? "It was my first time ever presenting," she tells Teen Vogue of her moment onstage at the Radio Disney Music Awards. "It felt natural and at the same time like I was living out something I had dreamed of."
Emeraude's living out more than a few dreams these days. Take her fitting before the big night, for example, where she had her choice of designer dresses and pumps to wear on the red carpet. She ultimately decided on a Tracy Reese sequined slip dress as colorful as her personality. It's "fresh, fun, flirty, and different than what I have worn before to other red carpet events."

"It was almost a surreal experience," she says of her first time presenting. "It felt natural and at the same time like I was living out something I had dreamed of."
Photo: Nathaniel Wood2/13Emeraude wanted makeup that would compliment her outfit. "I wanted a fresh face with a touch of gold on the eyes," she said of the beauty look created by Anton Khachaturian. "I did not want it to be too much since the outfit was colorful on its own."

Photo: Nathaniel Wood4/13In general, Emeraude prefers a minimalist aesthetic when it comes to beauty. "Unless it is needed for a role, less is usually more. I want people at home to see me and not a mask of makeup."
Photo: Nathaniel Wood5/13When choosing a red carpet outfit, Emeraude's number one goal "is to feel beautiful and comfortable as you have to be very confident when so many cameras and eyes are on you."
She continues: "No matter what it is, it has to be very ME when I am on that carpet. I leave Izzy, my character from Shadowhunters at the set, and bring out the true Emeraude."

"I loved that my dress, designed by Tracy Reese, is feminine, classy and glam but fun, shimmery and colorful as well."
Photo: Nathaniel Wood7/13It was "so much fun" working with noted celebrity stylist, Law Roach, says Emeraude. "He selected so many great options and I got to play dress up—not unlike when I used to do so with my friends as a child, but for a real event this time and with gorgeous clothes."

Photo: Nathaniel Wood9/13You'll never find Emeraude without these two must-have beauty products: "lipstick for touch ups and translucent — never-ever HD — powder." "But what is most important goes beyond the products," she adds. "I always remember to smile and enjoy every moment."

For last minute mishaps, she says "it's so important to have a sewing kit, wipes, double-sided tape and a steamer on hand or close by. And just in case the worst happens — like a major spill — you should always have a backup outfit ready."

"Overall, I dress feminine and flirty especially for parties and special events. I love being a girl." If she's headed to an airport, or hiking up a mountain, she prefers "comfy and sporty" looks.
