Richie Shazam Is Having the Best NYFW

If anyone’s having a jam-packed New York Fashion Week, it’s Richie Shazam Khan. The model, artist, and photographer is ruling the runway this season. He walked at Kim Shui in a one-shoulder neon dress and later, at Gypsy Sport in a clear frock with strategically-placed panels, and at Sandy Liang in polka dots, ruffles, and running sneakers. That’s not to mention his appearance at Carly Mark's Puppets and Puppets show or the Christopher John Rogers’ presentation, where he modeled a face-print peplum blouse and ball skirt.

Khan isn’t just making a splash at NYFW for his signature strut and magnetic personality, but he’s bringing some much-needed representation as a proud, Guyanese, non-binary model in a sea of white, thin, cisgendered faces.

“I want young kids growing up in the social media era to see me and say, ‘Oh, Richie is doing it. Or what does he identify as? Is he a boy or a girl?’” he told Vogue. “I don’t know if I identify as a boy or a girl but I want to wear a dress if I feel like it. Or I want to wear pants and a tuxedo jacket.”

Whether in a dress, tuxedo, jeans, or a ball skirt, we’re hoping to see him dominate the catwalks in Europe as well. Fingers crossed he’ll hit the runway at Ashish again, in his signature boa and sequins. In the meantime, see his best moments from New York Fashion Week below.
