What We Want to See in "Riverdale" Season 3
Have you heard the good news, Riverdale fans? Our favorite noir mystery series based on a classic comic book has officially been renewed for a third season. The show had us on the edge of our seats during the first season, and the drama just amplified when it returned for its second. Relationships have been tested, familial ties strained, and friendships tarnished. And hey, there's still a good chunk of the season left to watch.
There are a number of story lines that have yet to be tied up neatly, and it's unclear if they will be by the end of the second season. What will go down among Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of Riverdale's residents? When the cast has been tight-lipped about what fans can expect, it's hard to foresee. And while we’re thanking the television gods for another season, let’s also run through a wishlist of what we want more (or less) of in Riverdale’s sure-to-be-wild third installment.
1/8More Cheryl and Toni.
That kiss! Here’s hoping we get to see more of these two exploring their newfound attraction, hopefully unhindered by Cheryl’s devious mother, uncle, and anyone else who wants to get in their way (lookin’ at you, Sister Livingston), in season 3. I just wish they had a better ship name. #Choni does not roll off the tongue.
2/8Turning up the RHS drama.
Riverdale is at its best when most of the drama goes down at Riverdale High School and among the students there — they are the main characters of the show, after all. So hopefully season 3 will bring us more Archie, Veronica, Betty, Jughead, and their buds hanging in their high school world — taking down misogynists, starting clubs to cover up gang meetings, campaigning hard for student council, throwing parties, orchestrating protests, etc. — and less becoming integral pawns in the machinations of their parents’ businesses. Keep solving mysteries and tackling topical issues, though. Because who is Betty Cooper without her getting on her Nancy Drew?
3/8Other characters getting a chance in the spotlight.
In that same vein, if we spend more time in and around the teenagers’ lives, we’ll get to see more of the other characters whose plotlines seem to fade in and out of the show at random. This will depend on actor availability, of course, but just imagine the possibilities: more Ethel! Reggie! Fangs! Chuck (who was being set up for a redemption arc showing us how much he’d learned and changed but now just wrestles)! Dilton (who might be lost in the woods — someone should check on him)!
4/8What's new, Pussycats?
And speaking of, where the heck are the Pussycats? Has anyone seen or heard from Melody and Val since the Pickens Day debacle? I’m concerned. I’d like to see Josie reunited with her main girls ASAP, please, and I’m going to need even more musical numbers (and plotlines) from the trio in season 3 to make up for their sad lack of screen time in season 2. Because as excited we are for the musical episode, we want more.
5/8The Brady Bunch: Riverdale Edition.
Kevin and Josie, who are both series regulars, BTW, could stand to see some more screen time, too — and there’s a meaty plot line all ready, just waiting for the Riverdale writers to dive in. Josie’s mom and Kevin’s dad are currently seeing each other, and the town of Riverdale is due for some Brady Bunch-esque hijinks. Plus, how about some new love interests for these two? Kevin’s been looking mighty lonely lately (unless you count him and Chic talking about milk in Betty’s kitchen)…cough, cough bring back Joaquin cough, cough.
6/8Let's step back from the organizations led by Archie, but bring back his mom.
There’s only room for one gang in Riverdale, and it’s the Southside Serpents. Archie has started two, yes two, groups during the show's second season, and they both have lackluster names (the Red Circle and the Dark Circle. Yes, really). We're ready for Archie to be over this phase of his life. Who does he think he is, F. P. Jones? While we’re at it, can we get more Mary Andrews in season 3? We, and Archie, need her voice of reason around. We'll wish on 16 candles for that one.
7/8Alice Cooper, human mom.
It’s nice seeing Betty’s mom act like a human being who feels things other than (often misplaced) rage, judgment, and disdain. While I mostly think that season 3 could stand to focus less on the parents of Riverdale, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Alice and this new leaf she’s (very recently and not fully) turning over. Plus, if she and F. P. start dating, there are so many possibilities.
8/8A "Sabrina" crossover episode.
While a crossover episode with the spin-off "Sabrina" series is looking to be highly unlikely, a girl can dream. Or in Sabrina's case, cast a spell.
