Exclusive! We Got Ready for the AMAs with Sabrina Carpenter
- 1/17
At just 16 years old, songstress and Girl Meets World star Sabrina Carpenter is already starting to make her mark on red carpets. Last night, her Giamba dress worn on the American Music Award red carpet landed her on our best dressed list — and luckily for us, Sabrina gave Teen Vogue a behind-the-scenes look at getting ready for the big night.
Our photographer snapped Sabrina's beauty prep and styling routine at her California home with stylists Brit and Kara Elkin, and everything from her perfect flirty dress to her beachy waves have us taking style notes. We also hopped on the phone with her — she was in the car on the way to the awards show, and still couldn't be more calm or sweet! She filled us in on how this red carpet look came together and about what's next now that the second season of Girl Meets World has wrapped.
Check out these exclusive shots of Sabrina getting ready for the AMAs, and hear all her thoughts on personal style, recording a second album, and why she has the best fans around.

"I was that little girl who loved playing dress up. I went to dance school for 10 years so I was always having dance recitals, and it was my favorite time of year because I got to obviously wear more makeup than a little girl probably should have, but it was just for one day so it was always really fun."

"With my music, it's got to be something that's a little bit more expressive. It's got to move comfortably because I'm always moving around, and I don't like to wear skirts too much because you're up on a high stage, but it's always different. I think with this second album I'm going to be able to find a style with performing that really is different than my red carpet style."

"But also I think it's a time to be able to show people that you can have fun, because you are at such a young age and this is the time to do it more than any other time. It's just about experimenting, trying new things, different colors and patterns, things that you aren't comfortable with, and if it looks terrible than you can go somewhere else with it!"

"I have such loyal fans. I started posting covers when I was around nine years old on YouTube, and I think I covered pretty much every Adele song that I possibly could have, so I think it was exciting for people to see the transition of where I was at 10 to now at 16 singing her newest song. It's always been a little journey for me, I've always been such a big Adele fan and supporter, so I was happy she was coming out with her new album. If I can, I will be front seat [at her show], I will be there."

"We wrapped season two of Girl Meets World so until we go back, I've been 100% focused on my second album. I'm in the writing process right now and I am so excited. At first, you're a little hesitant because you don't know what it's going to turn out to be. But the more you make, the more you create and the more you explore, it starts to become this little project of yours that fits together, and I'm just so excited for everyone to hear it."
