How To Make A Layered Sand Necklace
1/14You Will Need
-1 foot of 3/4-inch clear vinyl tubing, available at hardware stores in the plumbing section
-2 3/4-inch jewelry end caps
-3 feet of leather cord
-E6000 glue
-Colored sand
-A small funnel
-Toothpicks
-Scissors
-A small plate
-A spoon
2/14Cut Leather Cord
Cut 18 inches of leather cord, and tie one end in a knot.
3/14Thread Cord Through End Cap
Thread the cord through an end cap so the knot is inside. Pull the cord tight.
4/14Repeat With Second End Cap
Repeat with the second end cap and the rest of the cord.
5/14Spread Glue On End Cap
Use a toothpick to spread some E6000 glue on the inside of the end cap around the knot and around the inside edge.
6/14Spread Glue On Tube
Spread more glue around the outside edge of one end of the tube, being sure to cover the entire edge so no sand will spill out.
7/14Place End Cap Over Tube
Place the end cap over the tube and wipe away any excess glue. Set aside for a few hours to dry.
8/14Cut Tube
Once the glue has dried, cut the tube so it is 6 inches long.
9/14Layer Sand
Spoon sand in though the funnel, layering small amounts at a time. Alternate colors and the angle you hold the tube to create different patterns and layers.
10/14Fill Tube With Sand
Begin filling the tube with sand. Hold the tube upright with the funnel resting inside it.
11/14Make Sure Tube Is Full
Fill the tube as full as possible so that there is very little empty space.
12/14Apply Glue
Apply glue around the open end of the tube and inside the end cap around the knot.
13/14Place End Cap Over Tube
Carefully place the end cap over the tube and gently lay the tube down to allow the glue to dry.
14/14The Finished Necklace
After the glue has dried, tie the cord in a bow. Your necklace is ready to wear!
