The Cast of Shadowhunters Predicts What's Going to Happen in Season 2
Shadowhunters’ second season is officially coming to Freeform! Getting picked up for a second run is exciting for any show, even if yours was based on Cassandra Clare’s wildly popular The Mortal Instruments books and, let’s face it, was likely coming back. (Not to jinx them or anything!)
Because filming hasn’t started, the cast isn’t quite sure where the next episodes will take them. "We don’t really know what’s going to be happening. I mean, we know based off the books, but we have no idea what the writers are going to use,” Matthew Daddario says. In that spirit, Teen Vogue asked the cast how they’d want the series to progress if they were calling the shots.

As the caring middle child, she does a lot for her brothers. "I want to see what she wants for herself. It’s time to see Izzy as Izzy,” Emeraude Toubia told us. She’s experiencing new things, especially her budding romance with Simon so it’s about time that she focuses on who she is.

Music is an integral part of the show both on and off-set. Katherine McNamara gets into character by making a playlist, adding that “music has such a visceral affect on people and me in particular…I was a dancer growing up so music affects me in a way that nothing else can.” In the show, Alberto Rosende's character Simon plays the guitar, which he’s learning to do IRL. "I really want to bring that into season 2," he shares. "I’m interested to see what sad, vampire song Simon would come up with.” We wonder if they’ll even get a say in the next soundtrack.

"Jace and Alec, that whole relationship is going through some serious trials. For the first time, they’re really on opposite sides of the fence, as far as we know,” Alberto says. Though the season ended with them making up, Alberto admits that he wants "to mess with that. I want to see, how far can you push people, who have so much love, before they break or go stronger?”

There’s a moment in the finale when — spoiler alert — Simon tells Clary he loves her. So where does the cast want to take the romance from there? “We want to see if the show can enter that and see if that’s something they’re ready for” Alberto says. "Simon always wants it, but we’ll see what happens”

The key to looking like you can take on a fight scene? “I try and do 100 push-ups to get my juices flowing,” says Harry Shum Jr. who plays Magnus. “It also helps because Magnus can be a fireball energy inside, who can’t show it all the time.” He’s been hanging back in the first season, but Harry wants his character to be more involved. “Hopefully the writers hear this. I want Magnus to fight, like really fight. These guys get to kick some ass so I hope to be a part of that,” he says.

Even though he doesn’t want to be one, Simon is a vampire and can no longer be with the shadowhunters. And as Alberto points out, this means “he has to attach himself to people that we may not have gotten to, maybe he meets someone new that could help him explore.”
