Skai Jackson's NYFW Diary: Get All the Details
You never forget your first season at New York Fashion Week, an eight-day marathon of transcendent fashion design, celebrity sightings, street style inspo, and more. The NYFW experience is greater still when you're a burgeoning fashion icon in your own right, as is the case with actress Skai Jackson. The 15-year-old powerhouse — who already boasts 10 years of acting experience under her belt — can now add the title of designer to her already robust résumé. On Monday, she announced her first-ever clothing line, a collaboration with Nowadays available at Macy's.
Eager to learn from the greats, Skai chatted with iconic American designers like Tracy Reese and Jason Wu, made plans to storm the Michael Kors runway, and even took a meeting with the design team at Miu Miu. That's when she wasn't rubbing shoulders with names like Demi Moore, Ashley Graham, Andreja Pejić and Bella Hadid. Not bad for your first season of NYFW!
Styled by Zadrian Smith, Skai wore a swoon-worthy repertoire of designer looks, from Prabal Gurung's "I am a Michelle" t-shirt to a glittering Michael Kors skirt set. One of her standout outfits? A textured white sweater and pleated metallic skirt of her own design. Fans will have to wait until October 15 to grab the outfit for themselves, along with a trendy sequin crop top, silver bomber jacket, and so much more. 1/13Skai sat front row at Prabal Gurung's NYFW show in a never-before-seen t-shirt from his latest collection, bearing the words "I am a Michelle." The shirt carries special significance for Skai. "I'm a big fan of Michelle Obama. She's such a positive person. To have her name on a shirt is so amazing to me. I believe "I am a Michelle" because I'm a leader. I'm someone who has a voice, and shares my opinion. I think that's what she embodies. To represent her, and to wear that shirt, means so much to me."

3/13The actress rocked her own creation — a silver bomber jacket adorned with black stars — layered over a polished denim dress to attend the Tracy Reese show.
4/13Skai chose a sweater and pleated skirt from her collection with Nowadays for a front row appearance at the fun-filled Libertine show. "One of my favorite looks was the sequin tuxedo look," Skai shared. "The collection is definitely not something I've seen before. I love that the models had fun. At runway shows, sometimes the models walk with a serious, stern face. I love that these models broke loose instead."
5/13Skai took a meeting with the Miu Miu design team wearing two of the season's biggest street style trends: the color red and plaid. She finished her look with a pair of artful sandals by Paula Cademartori.
6/13At the Michael Kors Access Smartwatch party, Skai and Michael Kors talked about her making an appearance on the catwalk in seasons to come. In her glittering leopard print MK outfit, she certainly looked runway-ready.
7/13Skai had her iPhone camera on hand for the Grey Jason Wu presentation, where she discovered endless outfit inspo. "I'm into all the neutral colors, and the fun pops of blue," she said. "I also loved how the models were on their own different stands, the show was so fun. I can't wait until the collection comes out."
8/13Two fashion icons in the making: at the Alice and Olivia show, Skai Jackson took a second to pose beside emerging model Ava Dash, Rachel Roy and Damon Dash's daughter.
9/13Jason Wu debuted a limited-edition line of accessories, hoodies, nail polish and more in a soft shade of grey, a unique hue developed by Pantone. "Grey is one of my favorite colors," Skai shared. "I've very into grays and neutrals. They match with basically everything."
10/13Skai was happy to see an inclusive modeling cast at the Tracy Reese Spring 2018 presentation. "There was a diverse set of models with different skin tones and sizes. When guests walked up to the models, each girl would share her story in her native language, and that was amazing to see. I loved all the designs, especially the statement earrings. And Tracy gave me some great advice on fashion design, especially since I'm doing my own line. I'm so appreciative of that."
11/13Prabal Gurung's show was a standout moment for Skai. "I love that there were models with different sizes and shapes. I think that's something awesome to embrace. Bella, Gigi and Ashley were amazing walking down the runway, I love them. I thought the collection was beautiful. He did a great job with it."

Alongside co-host Lara of Pretty Connected (pictured left), Skai welcomed guests to the Swarovski Remix Collection Launch Party — including famed designer Patricia Fields (pictured right). "It was such a blast closing out fashion week with Swarovski," Skai said. "The Remix collection is really cool and feels very young. I really love the emoji charms and how easy it is to build pieces that fit your style. For me, it's about stacking the bracelets on my wrists. The perfect way to close out my fashion week, with a sparkly, fun party."
