15 Pieces That Prove Ruffles Belong in Every Closet
1/17We're currently experiencing the rise of a “new feminine” trend in fashion. The new feminine is pretty without being precious. It’s sweet but not saccharine. If we’re getting Taylor Swift with it, the look has those “New Romantics” vibes.
One of our favorite trends to come out of this movement has been the return of ruffles. We’re not talking frilly, OG, Full House-Stephanie-Tanner ruffles, but grown-up and paired-down flounce like we saw on the runways of Lanvin, Balmain and Tibi (among others) for Spring 2016.
This season’s fresh take on ruffles can be as subtle as a relaxed peplum hem on a blouse or as festive as an embroidered tier of an off-the-shoulder top. We like how these modern feminine flourishes look when paired with minimal '90s-inspired accessories (think choker necklaces and round sunglasses) as well as easy wardrobe staples that let the trend stand out (cropped black pants, flare jeans, sneakers).
