How to Make a Striped One-Piece Swimsuit
1/9What You Need
-A one-piece swimsuit
-Fabric paint
-A soft-bristle paint brush
-A transparent grid ruler
-Tailor chalk
-Painter's tape
2/9Draw a Chalk Line
Line the ruler up with the arm holes of the bathing suit, and draw a chalk line for your first stripe. Stick a piece of tape above the line to help keep your edges clean once you start painting.
3/9Draw Another Chalk Line
Use the bottom edge of the tape as a guide for the ruler, and draw another chalk line an inch below it. Stick another piece of tape below the new line.
4/9Tape the Strap Stripes
Tape under the line. Then draw another line one inch above it, and tape above that line.
5/9Add More Tape Stripes
Continue adding tape stripes until you reach the legs of the suit. You can keep the stripes even or vary the distance every few stripes like we did! Then draw a chalk line that goes across both straps two inches above the first piece of tape.
6/9Fill in the Gap
Fill in the wide gap between the first stripe and the lower strap stripe with tape.
7/9Remove the Tape
Allow the paint to dry and peel back the tape. Heat set the fabric paint according to the instructions on the packaging.
8/9Start Painting
Dip the brush in fabric paint, wiping any excess on the side of the bottle. Paint the stripes in short, swift brush strokes in all directions, making sure to let the color of the swimsuit show through.
