Suite Dreams: Jodi Petersen's Room Makeover
When Teen Vogue first met with its newest room-makeover recipient, Jodi Petersen, to discuss plans for her bedroom overhaul, the sixteen-year-old Bronx, New York, native was adamant about one thing: her love for Justin Timberlake.
It was an interest of Jodi's the Teen Vogue team would be sure to incorporate, though we had several other factors to address first: At just nine feet wide, her space could easily get cramped—an especially important consideration given that Jodi, who suffers from cerebral palsy, needs as much room as possible to accommodate her wheelchair. What's more, since she lives in a rental apartment building, heavy-duty renovations—like stripping the floor of its linoleum tiles or adding overhead lighting—were out of the question. Add that to the fact that the team wanted to find a color scheme versatile enough to match each of Jodi's new Teen Vogue bedding sets (available at macys.com).
The solution? Compact modern furniture; walls in a neutral dove gray; a stylish area rug; several desk lamps; accent pieces like orange stools and a bright-blue nightstand; and last but not least, fun gadgets—including a Sony Bravia TV and an iPod, where Jodi can watch and listen to, yes, Justin Timberlake. —Amanda Fitzsimons
