Diane von Furstenberg-Inspired Nail Art How-To

This bold manicure draws inspiration straight from the Diane von Furstenberg top featured in the Goody Bag photoshoot in the November issue of Teen Vogue. Taryn Multack, the brains behind nail DIY site Miss Ladyfinger, spills her nail must-haves and demonstrates how to create this striking manicure on your own.

Bottom Coat: Quimica Alemana Nail Hardener: This stuff is simply amazing. Because I'm constantly changing my nails, I always apply this first and foremost. It strengthens my nails and keeps them healthy.

Top Coat: Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat: Living in New York City, I'm always on the go. Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat not only dries within minutes, but it's durable and helps my manicures last.

Go-To Nail Color: I just discovered Ginger+Liz polishes and I'm obsessed! Their colors are so bright and fun. My all-time favorite color is "Goin' Back to Cali".

Nail Art: I can't live without Art Club nail art lacquers from Color Club. Because the brushes are long and thin, sometimes I'll trim them for more control.

Cuticle Moisturizer: Rule of thumb: only cut cuticles for hangnail emergencies! Exposed cuticle cuts are way too susceptible to bacteria. To avoid the cutters, I use Kiels Imperiale Moisturizing Cuticle Treatment. The healthy oils and Vitamin E keeps my cuticles hydrated.

Hand Lotion: I use my hands a lot and for a lot of things. I need a great hand lotion that does its job, but without leaving a reminder. Thymes Agave Nectar Hand Cream is a deep moisturizer that works instantly. It's light and smells amazing.

Travel Kit: With family and friends scattered across the country, it seems like I'm always jetsetting. Bath and Body Works makes a super cute 7-piece manicure set that folds up for quick stow-away.

Quick Tip: Nothing is worse than a bad nail break. Although slightly unconventional, I swear by Super Glue. Using a buffer rub around the affected area. Ever so slightly lift the break just enough to get a little glue to bond to the other side. Using a toothpick, put pressure to seal the bond. Apply base coat and proceed as normal to buy yourself some time.

Storage: Storing nail polish for the at-home manicurist can be a bit overwhelming, but I've found the best solution is a travel toiletries organizer. All the plastic zip-locked compartments make it easy to find (a color coater's dream) and organize my polishes. Plus I never have to worry about spillage!
