10 Things Only Introverts Understand

Being an introvert in what seems like a world full of extroverts can be exhausting, but you’re definitely not alone (as much as you’d like to be). No not all introverts are shy and quiet — but being in very social situations can make us expend energy (versus gain energy), so we need to recharge on our own.
Here are 10 things only introverts understand, and also, tbh, probably don’t really want to explain further (no offense to all you extroverts out there!).
- 1/10
When you know the answer in class but maybe, like, too well, so you just keep your hand down because honestly you do not feel like talking that much about anything right now.
- 2/10
Constantly worrying about whether or not you’re talking enough, only to realize you don’t have to worry about that at all because that’s ridiculous, only to worry about whether or not all your worrying made you seem ridiculous.
- 5/10
Finding a really, really, really good book or TV show and not even being able to make an excuse about why you’re not going out – it’s literally this book/TV show, sorry friends and family.
- 6/10
Being devastated anytime you’re assigned a group project. You love your friends, really you do, but this is a whole extra layer of plans to make and people to make sure are on the same page as you, and you honestly cannot.
- 7/10
Scheduling library hours and free periods whenever possible because school is great, but it’s also filled with people and sometimes that’s just a little much.
- 8/10
When you hear a song that absolutely hits home and ironically just makes you want to go home and listen to it on repeat because a fellow introvert wrote it just for you.
- 9/10
Not being on board with everyone else’s joy over the arrival of a substitute. Do we really have to introduce ourselves, again, this late in the game? And explain what we’re doing? And inevitably veer from the actual tasks at hand when the substitute hasn’t actually gotten up to date? Pass.
- 10/10
Being a little worried about turning into a hermit, but then thinking it over and being like, that’s actually not really a bad lifestyle. Honestly, the uniform looks comfortable, and the pay can’t be that bad. Maybe just sign up and see what happens?
