15 Thoughts That Go Through Your Head When Being Cat-Called

If you're a woman, every season is cat-calling season. And by cat-calling, we mean street harassment.

Street harassment is, sadly, something nearly all women experience. One survey found that women face it no matter where they live in the country: 90% report experiencing it in rural areas, 88% report experiencing it in suburban areas, and 87% report experiencing it in urban areas. Sadly, 84% of women “consider changing their behavior to avoid street harassment.” But recent videos and campaigns are (thankfully) shedding more light on why street harassment is not OK and needs to stop.

There isn't one "right" way to respond to street harassment — for some people, no response is the most empowering. If you feel like being assertive next time you get harassed, the non-profit Stop Street Harassment has some great pointers here.
